Only Twitter so don't take too seriously, but, apparently Monaco now want around €80m for tchoumeni rather than the €50 last summer, if that's the case, what do you think we will do, and rumours of juve wanting jorginho in summer, but that's long way off.

{Ed002's Note - Twitter is broadly correct.}

If they want anything close to 80m then I'm fairly certain we won't get him. Which is a major letdown since it feels we had the chance to get him last summer, and decided against it for some reason.

Curious to see what happens regarding midfield next summer, but the past few years have not given me a lot of confidence in how the club go about their dealings in the transfer market.

Cheers Ed, any chance of input or has some idiot been the final straw on here.

{Ed002's Note - As I have said, Twitter is broadly correct about Monaco's demands.}

I wonder if that takes us back to interest in Rice. Even though the quoted price is more it’s always higher to begin with.

Chelsea still negotiating or do you suspect we will look to other targets, been keen on the player for some time, can’t imagine club as too pleased.

{Ed002's Note - That is not how it works.}

Ok, I won’t push anymore, good to have you back, sorry about the abuse you got,

for that price I'd rather get Rice.

I guess it’s best Chelsea waits till the summer transfer window then (to see if Monaco will be reasonable) . If that valuation of €80m doesn’t reduce, it means Tchouameni will stay at Monaco for a long time then cos I don’t see any right thinking club paying €80m for him in this universe or multiverse.

Obinna, I’m never bothered about transfer fees.

Whatever the club think is value is ok with me.

Also, on the reported increase in price. I can understand it now because they might want some financial insurance incase they don’t make the Champions League.

€80m for Tchouameni is a crazy valuation Tom.

Obinna, you and I have had a debate about player values over many windows.

You are always concerned about a player or players being overvalued and I always say that is for the club to decide each players value and it’s not my money anyway!

The club will use all sorts of criteria to judge a players value along with any position the club might want to reinforce.

If it was my money I would pay the £100mil to West Ham but I trust the club to make the call it thinks is best.

After all, we haven’t done to badly under Roman.

I guess we'll be looking at alternatives then?

Aurelien Tchouameni (DM/ CM) Juventus and Chelsea have all declared an interest in the player and have both held discussions with Monaco. Manchester United could look to him as a Paul Pogba replacement. Borussia Dortmund are interested in upgrading Axel Witsel and have looked at him as have others, such as Liverpool and Manchester City, without declaring an interest. Real Madrid opted for Camavinga and will concentrate on other priorities. Monaco have told clubs that they are not looking to sell. Juve may make an offer in January and would look to including a player in any deal - that could result in an offer from Chelsea and just possibly Real Madrid - who would also look to include a player in any deal. Juve's issue is money which may see them switch their attention to Witsel or Zakaria if Monaco won't accept a player exchange. For Chelsea something can be done.
Gavi (CM) Barcelona will not sell and that has been shared with Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG who enquired. He will get a contract with a Buy Out clause which will make him pretty much untouchable. Still a kiddie.
Ruben Neves (DM/ CM) Wolves would look to get as close to €50M as they can should circumstances dictate Neves is sold, but they certainly don't want to sell and have made clear that he has a long-term contract and there have been no approaches at this time. Mr Mourinho is a huge fan and has tried to take him to three different clubs in the past - and he would, I am sure be interested in taking him to Roma but their focus right now is elsewhere. He has always been seen as an option to replace Matic at Manchester United, but they have other priorities to deal with first and preferred options - although Wolves might see an offer. His agent has been actively offering him around and has spoken with Juventus who are looking to offload players but none that I would expect Wolves to be interested in. The Spurs coach would like him as an upgrade to Sissoko (who has now left) and Ndombele but it is likely both would need to leave as they have added another addition in midfield as well - if Winks were sold an offer is likely. Chelsea have a preference for Tchouameni. Arsenal are likely now out of the picture. Nothing will happen in respect of Chelsea.
Frenkie de Jong (CM/ DM) Tolisso upgrade for Bayern Munich but Barcelona don't want to sell although if a significant offer (perhaps €90M) were made their financial situation would mean they would have to consider it. During discussions between Barcelona and Chelsea, options for a number of players were discussed but Chelsea do not again want protracted negotiations which led nowhere over another player in the summer and they have a preferred option. Manchester City may provide another solution.
Jude Bellingham (CM) Manchester United and Chelsea were keen before he moved to Germany and will be interested again when he is made available for sale - and expect interest from Manchester City and potentially Liverpool as well. Dortmund will not be forced in to selling him next year and will seek a huge fee when he is sold.
Saul Niguez (CM) The player has struggled with the pace of the English game and it is unlikely that Chelsea will take up their option. Barcelona will look to a creative solution.
Franck Kessié (CM) Efforts are being made to secure a new contract, but the issue is over the wages continues with Milan struggling. Could potentially be sold but I expect agreement to be reached eventually else there will be a lot of interest with Juventus looking to meet his demands. Interest of Mr Mourinho at Spurs and now Roma remains. Spurs also want him as an Ndombele replacement but the player remains keen to move to Chelsea to eventually replace Kante - but Chelsea turned down the offer from his agent initially although a proposal is on the table that would suit both clubs and the player. His agent has also approached Manchester United and PSG but both sides would need to move a player on in order to add Kessie - but both are interested. An option may exist with Barcelona considering a deal for Kessie that will involve Umtiti. His agent has also spoken with Liverpool and Leicester who may be interested in agreeing a pre-contract in January but both have preferred targets. I think something could happen with Spurs.

Hopefully the club surprise us and wrap this deal up now for the summer before the deadline but I am not hopeful. I think we need to be moving quickly on this one or we'll lose the player to another club.

€80m is nothing for a really young player that clearly is elite as his numbers demonstrate over multiple seasons and it comes in a position which is very hard to find solutions to.

I have to be honest and say I haven’t seen much of him but I’m happy to take on board the general posters view that he is a good player.

TomB; I agree with you completely, ahhh I know it’s up to Chelsea to decide but I just can’t sleep when I remember the money (€80m) .

That will mean Frankie De Jong will become an automatic close substitute.

Tom your views on transfer fees are well known but it it is one of the few things I disagree with you about. I don’t like the club being ripped off- I take it personally. Also, look what has happened to Real and Barcelona recently paying well over the top for players.

19.) 30 Jan 2022
30 Jan 2022 04:37:01
Paying so much for a player could mean high wages too which ca used the balance in the team. Also making it difficult to sell the player in the future like drinkwater. I don't know how it works but but changing prices in a long drawn negotiations is turn off for me and I would look somewhere else like bissouma and other optins.

Jimbo, I only start to think of “rip off” if a player doesn’t come up to scratch and that only comes generally with the benefit of hindsight.

My view is our club decides along with the seller an agreement on price but it’s up to our club to see it as value.

Value isn’t just the fee it’s about so many other things such as, does the player improve the team and will the player help us win trophies.
