Ed001, with the difficulty of getting a good CB this summer, either due to price or unavailability, what do you think of Chelsea signing Declan Rice for the CB position?

{Ed001's Note - wouldn't you be better just using Ampadu? I don't see the point in spending money for the sake of it, much as I like Rice as a player.}

Why not both, ey? ;-) Ampadu plays DM, Rice as a CB. Can definitely work. Sadly I think Lampard will persist with Jorginho in midfield. Can't wait for the day we stop getting bullied in midfield.

{Ed001's Note - I was hoping Lampard would stick with the Kante/Kovacic midfield with Mount or someone in front of them. That works well. Do you not think Rice is a better midfielder than defender?}

Totally agree ED01, no point whatsoever going for Rice when we have Ampadu. I also agree that Kante looks so much better in a more central position alongside Kovacic or perhaps even Gilmour who I actually believe is going to be a very special player. Mount or Ruben or Barklay or Kai H in front of Kante and Gilmour would be my preferred midfield with Ziech, Pulisic and Werner in front of them.

{Ed001's Note - Gilmour has so much potential.}

I haven't seen enough of Rice at CB to say really. He does look very good in midfield.
I'd also be fine playing Rice in midfield and then Ampadu at CB haha :p
Would love if our deeper midfield options for next season would be: Kante, Kovacic, Gilmour and Rice/ Ampadu. Ideal mix of on ball ability and defensive ability.

It would be interesting to see the percentage of games Rice has played at CH.

I rate him highly and I raved about him when last at The Bridge. I’ve always thought midfield players can make good central defenders. It helps if they have the physical attributes.

{Ed002's Note - He hasn't played CB for two years.}
