I don't want to hear anything again about Rudiger or Christensen being our best defender it's Zouma by a country mile. The lad is an absolute powerhouse he's not fantastic on the ball but he's not poor either he's very underrated. Aerially and 1v1 he's a beast I've felt so comfortable all night at set pieces the man has won absolutely everything. He killed Deeney early on and he hasn't been the same since 😂 if it was Christensen and Rudiger he'd have bullied them.

If we got a leader next to him who's good on the ball maybe Rice? Then we would have a solid partnership at the back. I've been a big fan of Zouma for years.

He is very good in both boxes and had played wonderfully well until half way or so through second half when he did give the ball away to a Watford player not far outside our box that could have meant a goal. That apart though, and he has to cut out those moments when the balls almost gets stuck under his feet, he was v impressive and a commanding presence in our penalty box that we have lacked without him.

JBS I didn't want to talk about that mistake but it must be highlighted because against a top opposition that would certainly lead to a goal. That's the only hiccup in an otherwise composed display.

Have been saying he’s the pick of our (albeit poor) center backs all season. Keep in mind that today’s performance was only his second start since March and that lack of continuity will have an effect. He might struggle on the ball but it isn’t like the rest of our defense are Bonucci on the ball. He has everything you could ask for physically to handle the oppositions attacker and has the discipline to know where to be at all times which Rüdiger lacks. For me he should be the first defender on our team sheet and I’m at a loss as to why Frank thinks otherwise.

TK I think your missing the boat here mate.

First and foremost, Lampard was obliged to play Rudiger in defence and ahead of Zouma due to his work rate on and off the pitch. Rudiger has shown commitment and composure in his other role which is 2nd to none.

Moving away from the joke above, I won't get too carried away. At some point in the season all our cb's have given us all glimpses to be excited about and now its Zouma's turn. I'm sure its not too long before Christensen gets dropped due to an error and Rudiger returns. Its just the story of our season unfortunately.
