He's been playing well for us so far this season, but my word Alonso is a spanner (and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt) . Whatever logic he might be employing (and to a degree, what Rudiger wrote in his Players Tribune article, as well as the stances of players like Zaha and Toney is relevant here), to have the arrogance to casually say you've not consulted your Black teammates at all. I mean, honestly. It really does leave a bitter taste.

Also didn't know about the homicide charge until reading up on his history after this latest act of idiocy. I'd be happily shot of him now.

You are looking for problems where none exist.
Alonso has been our player of the season so far and long may that continue.

Why does alonso have to run his ideas past anyone when it’s the same message said differently? BLM stand and want more than just equal rights which not all people agree with, alonso’s msg is the same that we’re against racism in all forms, and it’s got the msg spoke about again, his driving offence is appalling and I don’t know the details so won’t comment.

Strasbourg – Typical response from a particular type of person (white, male presumably) . I group you with a section of the fanbase that are the reason I don't attend the Bridge any more. It's embarrassing, frankly. Question – if it was an issue that mattered to you, would you have different feelings about him playing? What if he was accused of grooming young girls, for example?

Matt – Why does a white man, who has never experienced racism, have to run his idea of changing a gesture in support of his Black teammates past them before doing so? When the whole issue is so loaded? You can't be serious. Basic human decency, perhaps? Caring? The purpose of a united front is meant to exactly that – unity. Not actively sowing discord. I think the backing for Alonso from Nigel Farage says everything that needs to be said.

Taking the knee has nothing overtly to do with BLM, by the way, besides the fact that BLM would support it as a form of action – see Martin Luther King Jr circa 1965.

I’m not sure what Alonso being in some peoples view the player of the season has got to do with the point being made.

I’m personally not that fussed how a player expresses his view about the issue of racism. Although for some strange reason I think it looks better if the team expresses a united demonstration.

Because his white he hasn’t experienced racism / discrimination, that sums it up perfectly?, and maybe alonso done some research into BLM and didn’t like idea of defunding the police and the thought that maybe it divides and pits people against one another than uniting against the big picture that is cavemen who are racist and abuse people from behind a keyboard, . His message is clear and it’s against racism, I agree with this msg, Alonso or zaha or any other player have to explain there self when like I said it’s the same msg. and taking of the knee has everything to do with BLM as in this instance it’s supportive of there movement in the last 2 years,

He is a against racism, he is still standing up and highlighting the fact he is against racism, if he points or kneels the msg is the same, his actions have racism back as a talking point and highlighting it, does it matter if he drops to a knee,

EdW, your falling into the trap of saying there is a stereotype for racism. There is NOT.

Through my long life I’ve seen racism in many forms and also been the victim of racism from people within my own race.

Some idiots at Chelsea still exist and when I hear it I report it. I give the club the seat number and if possible a photo of any culprit.

I have posted my views on this site many times about some of the vial comments made at football grounds and sometimes on this site. The Eds do a fantastic job of editing most of the crap out and that’s why enjoy this site.

Tolerance is something i try to practice as well as preach but I’m happy enough for people to express their views in a way they see fit as long as it’s not offensive.

Tom, it’s gone from football banter to politics, if you don’t take the knee your racist, if your a white male your privileged and apart of the systemic racism problem in this country, being against racism isn’t enough, you have to drop to a knee and feel guilty if your not a minority, the vast majority want the same respect and chances and the few and I mean very few, want revenge, and to say that because Nigel fsrage agreed with it sums it up is so dumb it’s in real, Nigel / corbyn / Biden / trump or whoever have all said things I have agreed with and have all said things I completely disagree with. Take a person for what he says not who he is,

You know absolutely nothing about me or my philosophy so kindly keep your idiotic opinions to yourself.
Alonso has made it crystal clear what his feelings are by pointing to the badge on his shirt.
I would wager you aren't black because a lot of people I know who are think taking the knee is past its sell by date and has had little or no real effect.
But if it assuages your and others guilt so that nothing effective is done. Fine.

I'd like to share my opinion on the matters that have been brought up.

1- I don't think taking a knee is a good way to fight discrimination and racism. It's just a gesture and nothing more and it won't have any kind tangible result. I'm sure many people would agree with this.

2- Alonso is not the first person to say something like this and other people have done something similar, Max Verstappen comes to my mind.

3- Alonso is free to state his opinion and behave how he wants as long as it's not harmful toward others. Maybe he could have been more cautious about what he says, but I think tolerance and understanding is needed for everyone as they allow us to live better with one another.

4- It's too early to call whose our player of the year. Alonso is just a few bad mistakes away from returning to his usual self.

I don’t like Alonso. Imo he is a cheat and a fair weather player. Don’t know where all this “player of the season so far” is coming from. He is playing well and simply doing his job. If he got an injury Chillie would come in, take a game possibly two and would be his equivalent.

Stephen, Alonso is a cheat, where is that coming from. He has been excellent so far. I am surprised you are sticking up for Chilwell as he is not from our youth academy. Jeez.
