Watching the Utd v City game and I have to say that the referee has impressed me. He has tried to let the game flow. More like him would be good.

Agree0 Disagree0

My god that game was dull.

07 Apr 2025 09:05:27
Particularly dull for the neutrals seymns2 though was slightly hoping United could get all 3 points to deprive City of any . but our game against Brentford neutrals might have found even duller.

Seymns, I totally agree. It would appear that we now have two methods of playing football in the premiership. It’s either possession or counter attack.

I’m rather hoping it’s just a “passing” fad.

Tom

I really hope the possession football is consigned to the dust bin for ever.

It's boring watching us and it's boring watching City.

I thought we reached a low with TC with his boring tactics but my goodness, LeicesterMaresca has taken it to another level.

I can see fans bringing in pillows to watch us play, that way when they fall asleep, they will be comfortable.

Premier league football is just so boring now to watch. Players are micro managed and all the flair has gone. The financial rewards that both obtaining Champions league qualification and avoiding relegation mean pretty much all the clubs set up in the same way so as not to beat. This is the dullest it has ever been and with increasing costs to watch it on TV I wonder if the bubble will burst soon.

07 Apr 2025 12:03:44
Anna, maybe you are correct but as we have seen before most managers follow successful formulas and my guess is the possession for possessions sake fad will eventually pass.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see wide players who can go either way and just maybe be to cross a ball. Unfortunately they are now always cutting inside and into a crowded penalty area. I suppose there isn’t much point in crossing a ball when the vast majority of teams haven’t got a CF who can head a ball.

Bring in that to be offside there has to be clear daylight between attacker and defender. It will create more goals and less var crap. And hopefully push teams to take more risks going forward.

But on the bright side it's sunny, we got another point at the weekend. Not a win but also not another loss.

Have a good week guys. Remember chelsea is our love but it's not the end of the world.

blueblood, one of the reasons that I’m not a fan of the so called inverted FB is it stops that FB overlapping. I used to enjoy attacking FB’s.

07 Apr 2025 13:50:40
We could start by ditching LeucesterMaresca and his boring going nowhere possession tatics and bringing in a more progressive coach.

07 Apr 2025 14:38:56
Most matches for the neutral are dull, how many players who don't play for ones own team are worth watching

The dullest season for a long time, with regards to Chelsea what was the last really exciting team we had?

{Ed001's Note - as a neutral, I would say the one with Essien in the middle was the last genuinely exciting team you had.}

07 Apr 2025 14:48:32
So many of our managers in the recent past haven’t played football that wasn’t easy on the eye that’s for sure.

To me, the vast majority of teams in the premiership are tactically stuck in the headlights. If that makes sense.

I guess it was the same when we had 442 as the vogue. Virtually every club set themselves up as 442.

07 Apr 2025 15:02:54
Sorry. “have played”.

07 Apr 2025 15:07:25
Apart from possession football, I think the other boring system is the low block.

To me, that is because teams are too scared of the opposition.

07 Apr 2025 15:31:48
The vast majority of games at the bridge we have to face a team with a so called low block.

Yes it is boring but we have won Champions Leagues playing that way so it’s hard for me to moan to much.

07 Apr 2025 15:56:42
The reason our possession game is so boring is because of teams setting up a low block against us ?‍♂️.

07 Apr 2025 18:50:44
I’ve said before that this idea that the PL is the best in Europe is delusional. An average Liverpool side have virtually won the title at a canter. The football has been boring ( us included) . There is nothing new about the low block, it used to be called parking the bus. There is no excuse for not overcoming it if you have the right coach, players and tactics.

07 Apr 2025 20:23:59
I would be reluctant to call the premiership the best in Europe nowadays but as a TV viewer of a reasonable amount of European football, I can honestly say that in general most of the various countries league games are woeful.

I watched the Milan v Napoli game about a week ago and the skill level on display on both sides was bang average.

The best and most exciting league games I’ve seen this season have on lots of occasions involved Barcelona. They can play some exciting stuff.

07 Apr 2025 20:59:21
The low blocks has been around for ages jimbo I agree.
But back in the day wingers we're used as wingers and the ball was thrown into the box.
Cross after Cross.

Now we get to the Cross and turn back. It wasn't until the second half when neto jackson and palmer came on did we start throwing crosses in.

I believe half the issue is, we as fans or maybe coaches or maybe they aren't built like it anymore but a proper center forward think Drogba, Costa, Jimmy Floyd. That will do anything to get onto a Cross.

The world is so obsessed with a messi they don't want a big lump anymore.

I do think osimhen or delap can be that guy.
