I am going to assume that City are guilty of at least some of the 115-130 charges against them.
The silence on this issue has been deafening but I was always under the impression that if found guilty any punishments would apply for this season. Maybe I got that wrong?

Tom, I wouldn’t assume that City will be found guilty. Nothing is going to happen about this season. In any event, if City are found guilty they will appeal. The Premier League are partly responsible for this. A lot of the changes overlap each other. If this had been a criminal fraud trial the indictment would have been trimmed down to focus on the most serious misconduct to prevent the trial taking longer than necessary. This approach has allowed City’s expensive lawyers to cover their pensions.

The opinion is that due to timescales with decisions and appeals, the punishment will be next season.
It will also allow city to replenish their squad.

The process will go into next season so won't affect this one which is a shame.

I think you are right Tom. If it doesn't get sorted this season the fallout could be huge next season with clubs potentially filing lawsuits if they miss out on European competition and all the revenue that brings. City will almost certainly get a record points deduction.
