I see David Fallows is joining our recruitment team. Fallows was head of recruitment at Liverpool for 12 years and brought in the likes of VVD, Salah etc. He left Liverpool in the summer of 2024 and is now on the brink of joining Joe Shields and Sam Jewell in reporting to Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart. He will be tasked with unearthing the next gems as well as having input into other matters football related. Sounds, on paper, a very astute move by the club. What can you tell us about him ED01?

{Ed001's Note - not a lot, he was not really in charge of anything as Bodgers and Klopp both demanded, and got, control of transfers. He was more of a figurehead really, who acted as a go-between for the different groups - scouts, data analysts and management. I think it would be a lot better if he returned to actually scouting players etc, as the upper management role was not really suited to him and he ceded too much to others.}

Good question RPD and thanks Ed001 for interesting info on David Fallows. Given that he will be reporting in to Shields and Jewell does that mean that DF will be more involved with actual scouting - or co-ordinating scouting - when joining CFC?

{Ed001's Note - it does seem he will be better suited.}

That's encouraging Ed001 thanks.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}

Thanks ED01, it does appear that his primary brief is to scout talent.

{Ed001's Note - that is his strength. Or rather was. I would not see it as something you lose but the game has changed, so it can change what needs to be scouted.}

It's amazing how the game has changed so much and clubs now have large teams of recruitment people trying to spot the next gem. Gone are the days when the gaffer did everything with the chairman. Thinks back to the likes of Brian Clough.

Yes the extraordinary Brian Clough who of course had a potent partnership with his assistant manager Peter Taylor if particularly at Derby and Forest of course. Seems as though Clough was a bit lost without him - not least when without him in his ill fated short tenure at Leeds - and often changes of assistant or a key meber of ciacjing team beyond the manager might make a difference to manager's fortunes but most just focus on the manager rather than assistants - or by now whole battery of coaching team members. Ed001 comment about change of Slot assistant manager at LFC from Heitinga to von Bronkhorst. was interesting here and something I certainly hadn't picked up on.
