Tusole has written an article entitled, Chelsea's Summer Gamble Exposes Gaps in the Squad

Tusole, I have read your article and large parts of it I find myself in agreement.
I have no idea what the Nationality of Delap is referring too?
I don’t recall us ever being in with a chance of signing Haaland and if I remember correctly from the sadly departed Ed02 it was the Osimhen wage demands that stopped that deal happening.
I have said many times I would have kept Jackson and Delap was not on my list of CF signings. I have never seen Pedro as a CF.

Well argued Tusole, good post.
The Delap nationality question presumably referes to fact that his father Rory - couldn't Liam at least learn his long throw technique! - played for Republic of Ireland but Liam was born in England and is eligible to play for both countries?
{Ed001's Note - I doubt it is that easy, Rory grew up doing javelin throwing as a sport, developing the muscle groups and technique for those long throws.}

Fascinating info on Rory Ed001 and thanks for it. Makes me wonder how other long throw in specialists gained those muscles and technique. the one I saw at CFC in my youth was Ian Hutchinson, but I have no idea how he was able to do it or learnt to do it.
It was his long throw that led to Webb;s winner in that 1970 FA Cup final replay at Old Trafford when Dirty Leeds were met by a pretty ditrty CFC on the day too. a Ref has said that today 11 red cards would have been shown if the match had been played today!
{Ed001's Note - apparently no one knew he could do it and Pulis nearly wet his pants with excitement when he suddenly launched a long throw in training!
It always annoys me that Liverpool don't make use of Gomez's long throw - scored a goal off it and then shelved it. Makes no sense to me!}

That article by tusole is factually incorrect.

Ed001, we would all love football to be like Brazil or Ajax in the 70s but football has moved on. If you want to be successful particularly in the PL you have to use all available tactics. That’s why unfortunately Arsenal will win the title; effective and efficient football.
The other reason is because Man City and Liverpool have dropped off. I would reluctantly prefer to watch set pieces and long throws rather than CBs passing the ball between themselves and the goalkeeper endlessly like Chelsea dished out yesterday.
{Ed001's Note - I think you should use all available avenues to score - ignoring setpieces is foolish.}

I agree any legitimate way to score a goal is something that all teams should work on. I was also happy to see us try something different defensively recently. Maybe we should have tried it for the Leeds set pieces.

Tusole, I mostly agree with your article. I think Tom is right we were never near signing Haaland and Oshihem’s wages were an issue. It is said that you get what you pay for and it is also true that you don’t get what you pay for: over the last few seasons we have paid significant fees for players who are not good enough and are still paying wages for some of them.
I find it difficult to gauge what the ambitions of the owners and hierarchy are and what the direction of the club is:a premier league title doesn’ t seem to be an objective. True, Liverpool have fallen off a cliff but they clearly indicated their ambition to retain the title and go for the CL. Our summer signings showed a lack of ambition.

I would assume that most clubs have a degree of ambition. Only one team can be crowned champions, so all the other club’s ambitions fall short to a lesser or larger extent.
I’m certainly not a Liverpool expert. When I read there supporters posts the majority seem to lay the majority of the blame at the door if Slot. I’ve also seen some fans saying that there were too many new player signings (sounds familiar) and I’ve also seen criticism of the current tactics.
When a team doesn’t achieve what the fans expect the reactions of football fans seem pretty similar regardless of the club.
