Hi Ed. I was wondering if you would perhaps shine a light on Barkley and the plan's we've got for him? In my opinion he isn't good enough for us, seems too unprofessional and with RLC coming back and Gallagher perhaps getting a chance next season, I can't see the reason in him staying - at least after the summer.
So yeah, just wondering if you can tell anything about our plans with him? :)

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any "plans" being in place with respect to Ross Barkley but there have been two recent incidents that are completely unprofessional, and that is something the club take very seriously. When he arrived at Chelsea he came with the reputation of being a bonehead and someone took responsibility for making sure that was in the past - and until recently he has behaved reasonably well. That situation has now changed and, as you say, with others (including Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek) who will be looking for a chance next season his opportunities may well be reducing and Chelsea will listen to any offers.}

1.) 01 Dec 2019 18:38:39
Thanks Ed2. Brilliant insight.

2.) 01 Dec 2019 20:07:11
Yeah thanks a lot!

3.) 01 Dec 2019 20:11:44
It’s always a shame and it certainly frustrates other players and fans who haven’t got his sort talent. It’s such a waist. I hope he can turn it around.

4.) 01 Dec 2019 23:05:25
He's going to look back on his career with so much regret. He could have been special. A top prospect who hasn't even scraped the barrel of what he could have offered.

5.) 01 Dec 2019 23:31:39
Good question emill took a punt on him not sure it's worked out shamne really
And if someone else had taken that pen.

24 May 2018 17:02:42
Poch has just signed an extension. Guess he was never really an option, but no doubt he'd been an excellent choice. Really hope clearance is provided soon!

18 May 2018 11:46:56
Could any of you Eds perhaps shed a light on what happened Wednesday night in regards to Chelsea's managerial situation? Would be highly appreciated!

{Ed001's Note - no sorry, I don't know.}

1.) 18 May 2018 16:04:00
Fair, one cannot know everything ;)

{Ed001's Note - sadly no. I wish I could though!}

2.) 18 May 2018 20:03:47
Apparently it could seriously be Poch to Chelsea. I'd be very surprised and confused though.

3.) 19 May 2018 09:59:29
Where did you hear the from Jackson?

4.) 19 May 2018 19:11:55
Apparently some guy claims it on twitter. Probably not true, but it's strange that it's even being touted as a possibility.

10 Mar 2018 18:22:22
We definately need to start Zappa against Barca! Always gives his all, and quite a threat offensively, too!

1.) 11 Mar 2018 09:25:22
agree . I prefer him too. not as physically strong but for me can offer more. more games he plays the more consistent and better he will get.

28 May 2017 12:07:05
Hey ED. I'm not sure if this is one of the questions that you don't like, but hopefully that isn't the case - at least, it isn't my intention to waste your time. But seeing how other teams such as City and United are already bringing in some solid reenforcements, could you perhaps provide some information about Chelsea nearing any deals? Perhaps drop a few names as Well? I understand if it's not possible, I was just hoping for some Nice updates after yesterday's dissapointment!
Regardless - you have yourself a nice Day - take Care!

{Ed002's Note - There is no way for me to try and anser questions about the ti,img of transfers.}

1.) 28 May 2017 14:01:43
Okay, I understand - and Sorry to bother, I'just struck by some mean hangovers and thought you might have some uplifting news 😉.

{Ed002's Note - There is always uplifting news Emil - summer is just about here, the butterflies are out.....}

2.) 28 May 2017 16:23:08
News of Bakayoko and Naby Keita signing for Chelsea would be more welcome than 30 degrees outside while I have to prepare for exams though :P.

Hi Ed.
I know you must know a lot about Chelsea's youth team since you've been able to talk about a young promising left back in Ian Maatsen.
This lead me to wonder if one of the reasons that we seem to be willing to sell Giroud is perhaps because the club has got plans about using a player from within the club as cover for the striker position if one of Tammy or Michy were to become injured? :) Or if the club is just taking a slight gamble that none of said players become injured? :)
I hope you understand my question and that you won't find it too dumb haha. Cheers!

{Ed002's Note - No, it is none of that. Giroud is leaving because his contract is running out and at 33 he wants more chance of playing regularly. It is nothing to do with anything else.}

1.) 15 Jan 2020 13:53:04
Okay, that makes sense I think! Thanks a lot for your very fast reply! :)
It will be exciting to see if he gets to play much more at Inter. Both Lukaku and Lautaro seem to be doing really, really well, so he will certainly face some strong competition!

{Ed002's Note - Maybe one will not be there next season.}

2.) 15 Jan 2020 14:07:03
Well it certainly seems like Lautaro is of interest of some of the biggest clubs, when I read some of the other pages :) He would be very welcome at Chelsea in my opinion, but I don't see that happening any time soon :)
I actually think one of the strikers I would prefer seeing here the most is Osimhen, but that's also because I think it's awesome how he's overcome malaria - plus he seems very gifted.
Nevertheless have a nice day, Ed - wherever in the world you may be!

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have had a sustained interest in LM for a couple of years. There is only one person at Chelsea pushing for Osimhen.}

3.) 15 Jan 2020 14:57:46
Thanks a lot for your replies, Ed. Really appreciate it!

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

4.) 15 Jan 2020 18:37:28
LM would be an amazing signing in the summer. Unfortunately he'd be an amazing signing for Real or Barcelona too.

5.) 15 Jan 2020 19:15:59
well done Emil. Think we should all read his messages with Ed02. Well formulated, polite and thankful. A bit of thought before posting saves u from an ed02 roasting.

6.) 16 Jan 2020 10:26:23
Thanks Sid. We all know how many messages Ed gets, some better than others. Since he is willing to use so much time on all of us, the very least we can do is have a proper tone and be thankful of his replies! :)

7.) 16 Jan 2020 18:09:24
I believe LM is tailor made for Barca, who (I suspect) will be looking to bring in a Suarez replacement. Thank you for the update, Ed!

8.) 17 Jan 2020 15:58:32
Please, please, please - Lautaro Matinez to Chelsea - Make it so.

29 Dec 2019 11:40:51
Hoping that we'll see our players full of motivation and spirit today.
I think we should line up in a 3-4-3, and in my opinion, AC should be our central centerback. That's his best position, and I think it could be an indication as to wether he's good enough or not.
Preferably Alonso as left wingback, Emerson if he's still injured. Kante and Kovacic as central midfielders.
I think the really tough question is who starts out of Pulisic, Willian and Mount. Regardless, Arsenal seem pretty vulnerable at their full/ wingback positions, and we should aim to take advantage of this weakness!

27 Dec 2019 08:47:45
I didn't get to see the game yesterday, as I was together with my family. Seems like I didn't miss anything.
I feel like the day after the game is the best time to ask this - were we really as bad, as some of the comments here would have me think?
Also, how do you think we can possibly change this negative curve? I spoke with my uncle, he thought buying a real bully of a target man would be wise, as we seem to struggle against teams that play very defensively.
I don't really know myself. A part of me says we shouldn't buy top class players, as it could perhaps hinder some of our young player's progression. Another part of me says that top class players are very much needed, and that bringing in players that will be more likely to secure top 4 is more important than giving our young players an extra chance.
Thinks that I HAVE noticed is that I don't think Tammy gets enough to work with in many of our games. Perhaps a player like Isco could change that? I also must admit that while Jorginho was amazing at the start of the season, I too think that he has fallen off drastically. He also had very bad spells last season. Perhaps we need to consider selling and buying a young player? Perhaps Sander Berge? (although I have never seen him play, and don't know if he's the same role - I just think Ed01 maybe mentioned him as a player with a bright future once? )
Hopefully we get better in the near future! - Merry Christmas.

1.) 27 Dec 2019 09:22:49
You didn’t miss anything that was worth leaving your family for EmilSC.

Since the international break we have at best been average. IMO, this is what happens with young players, they have hot and cold streaks. Let’s hope we start hitting some form soon.

2.) 27 Dec 2019 15:42:32
Unfortunately, it was our poorest performance yet under Frank Lampard. Usually, fixtures on boxing day are challenging due to one reason or another and yesterday was no different.

The game followed the same footprints of the losses we have had to West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth. We conceded first and then the game became all rushed and disorganised - Felt like somenody pressed the panic button.

I suppose this is expected of young players who will learn from these experiences. You need cool, calm collected individuals when you are coming from behind and that is not what we had on the pitch yesterday.

In terms of what needs to be done, in my opinion we should go with a midfield trio of Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante. That is the best we have from a creativity prospective. It's not stella but the best we can afford. We need the link up play between Kova and Jorginho like we had at the start of the season to break down defensive blocks. Kante isn't technically gifted like his peers and like Mount has a good engine and can create space etc but it leaves us further deprived of creativity in the midfield. I would rather Kante over Mount in a midfield 3. Obviously, as many of you would point out Jorginho can be a liability when defending and his recent dip in form doesn't help.

Pulisic, Willian and Abraham are no brainers unfortunately given that there is no other competition in my opinion. CHO will come good, he needs time. I've heard his asked for reassurance from team mates due to the level of abuse he has received from some Chelsea fans.

That is quite disappointing given that his come back from a massive injury and is 19. Even I had pop at him and said could he be all hype? But intake that back and will give him time.

But definitely need a creative midfielder, winger and a striker If we can in January.

{Ed047's Note - why do you talk about Kante as though he’s not the 1st name on the team sheet.

It should be whose lucky enough to play with him and Jorginho ought to feel lucky he plays at all.

3.) 27 Dec 2019 16:02:37
For me, no one deserves to be the first name in the team sheet right now because the players have been poor collectively for the the past 7 games or so. Yesterday everyone was poor.

Yes Kante is our only world class player and I suggested a midfield trio of Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante.

Recently, Jorginho hasn't played many games and that is probably justified (poor form) but we haven't won many either so removing him hasn't solved the problem. So my suggestion is playing the trio and see if it works because from a creativity perspective it's probably the best we got. The pivot of Kova and Jorginho worked brilliantly at the start in breaking teams down. Its become a massive issue now.

4.) 27 Dec 2019 19:14:08
I was at the match yesterday and Jorginho was one of the better players. Mind you the bar wasn’t set very high.

5.) 27 Dec 2019 21:00:31
I actually think kanye has been quite poor since returning from injury (bar his performance vs tottenham) . His first touch has let him down a lot, and his decision making in finding a pass has been too slow.

It makes me wonder if he's actually back to full fitness yet, as we all know he's easily one of, if not the best midfielder in world football on his day.

6.) 27 Dec 2019 21:50:05
Well, I have been sitting at times, almost screaming out of pure enjoyment from some of the things Kante has been involved with this season. Guess that just shows how football can be viewed differently!

15 Dec 2019 16:06:16
Absolutely awful man management from Duncan Ferguson to sub off Kean after subbing him on 20 minutes earlier. I get the feeling each of our former three managers could have done something similar, and I really think Frank is a nice change who knows better. He simply seems like a better boss, in my opinion.
What made me write this post, however, is the situation regarding Moise Kean. Surely he cannot be happy at Everton?
Perhaps he could be a nice replacement for Giroud? A lot of people seemed to rate him highly before his move to Everton and it is still a very young player, so maybe it would be a scoop?
Admittedly I have not really seen him play that much, so perhaps you could give your opinion on him Ed01? :)

{Ed001's Note - he is not happy and his agent, Mino, is looking for a move for him because he is not playing. Kean has struggled to settle and get into the team, but he is just a kid and Everton had done nothing to help him.

The treatment by Ferguson was just humiliation and should never have been done. Horrible thing to do for no real reason. I expect better of Everton, but sadly I expect nothing else from Ferguson.

As for Kean, at Juve he showed that he has something there, some real talent to work with, despite putting up with some horrible racist abuse. I think he probably needs a team where he can play more regularly though, if he is going to settle. At least with Chelsea he would have help to settle in the area and they would not just leave him to his own devices. So maybe it would be a good idea thinking about it. He is not a cheap option though!}

1.) 15 Dec 2019 16:36:47
Very interesting Ed.

2.) 15 Dec 2019 16:45:09
Very sad to see how he has been treated by Everton. I rated him pretty high last season.

3.) 15 Dec 2019 17:29:36
Thanks a lot for your reply, Ed - very well written and detailed. I must admit that I thought them getting Kean for what is believe was rather cheap compared to other prices, was one of the best transfers in recent years. He would be exciting here!

{Ed001's Note - I think he will be a huge regret in future years for the Toffees. They have made a mess of it badly.}

11 Dec 2019 11:22:55
According to Di Marzio, apparently Barcelona are interested in buying Boga. Think he would be a much wiser player to get that Zaha, and I always thought he had the potential to become really good. Maybe the club should be considering him?

1.) 11 Dec 2019 12:33:36
So you want us to buy fullback rather than winger?

2.) 11 Dec 2019 13:11:46
Well as far as I know he does in fact play winger and not fullback. That also seems to be the case when I look at Sassuolo's team sheets this season?

Obviously I know next to nothing about what happens behind the scenes in professional football and about the economy involved in transfers etc., but isn't it really optimistic from Atletico to want the money that they spent on him back, considering that he hasn't really proved anything positive since making his move to Atletico and given the fact that, although the money in transfers seems to have risen dramatically in the last few years, they still paid a lot of money when they bought him?
At least, if I were representing a club interested in him, I think it would be much more reasonable to instead make it an option to buy him instead of an obligation. But perhaps that's just me :) But obviously it makes sense if you're Atletico and want to sell him :)

{Ed002's Note - They accept they won't get it all back. But English sides pay a premium - somethimes a significant premium.}

Ed001 do you not think that Kante is being used in his best role or am I reading too much in to your reply? :) I myself think that the role he's playing now suits him quite well actually. I think the problem is that using him in an offensive way as the one he's used in right now demands too much of Jorginho. And although I really like Jorginho, I can't help but think if perhaps having a more defensive minded player there who can still build the play would be better. Obviously these players don't just hang as fruits on a tree ready to be picked, but I think that a player like Fabinho would be amazing behind for instance Kante and Kovacic.

{Ed001's Note - no he is too far forward and should be right in the centre, with freedom to roam, rather than pegged to the right side. Not as deep as Jorginho plays, but not as far forward as he is now. He is being absolutely wasted and your defence is being torn to shreds because they are getting no protection. Though the state of the defensive organisation is not helping, particularly at set pieces.}
