Fabrizio Romano saying Saúl is now blocked so looks like Koundé or nothing.
We need a midfielder. Ed002, is there any chance of a surprise name, or is that the lot?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you would see as a surprise. I have explained completing transfers for both players would be difficult.}

1.) 31 Aug 2021 08:09:27
Bissouma would certainly suffice Ed002! Or a deal out of nowhere for Tchouameni? Or actually getting a player through the door.
On a serious note, feels like we've massively let Tuchel down. Wouldn't blame him if he walked, he made it clear what he wanted and we failed to deliver after winning the big prize in football.

2.) 31 Aug 2021 08:44:51
RJ, £97m on Lukaku?! Hardly a 'let down'. And Seville and Athletico have every right to demand whatever they like for players under contract to them.

Personally, I still think Kounde will arrive today but, if not, we still have a very strong squad with Chalobah and RLC.

3.) 31 Aug 2021 08:52:13
Tuchel made it clear he was very happy with the squad he had, a couple of additions would be great but absolutely no problem of it couldn't be done.

4.) 31 Aug 2021 08:57:01
Tuchel said several times he wanted players in and has expressed concern about the midfield.

5.) 31 Aug 2021 09:56:58
With both being Difficult will we go for another target or accept defeat and stick with what we have.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea will not buy for the sake of it.}

6.) 31 Aug 2021 10:15:07
RJ, why on earth would TT walk?

He got the CF he wanted and it’s well documented we have tried to make signings that would bolster the squad and hopefully improve it.

If the club can’t reach an agreement on player valuation then they are absolutely correct to walk away.

TT is a big boy he knows the rules and he knows the effort the club has put into signings this window.

{Ed002's Note - He is simply trolling the site.}

7.) 31 Aug 2021 10:24:26
He got the players he wanted.
Chalobah is more than good enough, and Koundé might come in January.
Our midfield problem will be addressed next summer, until then we can leave with what we have. Ampadu and RLC are good back ups. Chalobah can also play in the middle.

8.) 31 Aug 2021 10:29:54
Ed002 any chance of a late move for boubacar kamara whomwe have been interested in before thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Marseille are talking to another side about his sale.}

9.) 31 Aug 2021 10:41:14

{Ed002's Note - He is.}

10.) 31 Aug 2021 10:44:18
Is the clubs focus purely ON Saul and Kounde for today or are the looking down the list?

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are still looking at trying to do something with Saul and Kounde and to move on a number of players.}

11.) 31 Aug 2021 11:11:06
Ed002 is that club seville for kamara.

{Ed002's Note - Yes there have been talks.}

12.) 31 Aug 2021 11:26:59
I see so assuming that would help the kounde deal and likely be his replacement? And any chance of tchouameni late move thanks.

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

13.) 31 Aug 2021 11:37:57
Thanks Ed, thankfully I am in Asia so I can go to bed in a few hours and wake up when the madness is over, I hope deadline day is not too trying for you!

{Ed002's Note - Thanks Mike.}

14.) 31 Aug 2021 13:57:29
Bissuma is a answer for Chelsea.

15.) 31 Aug 2021 09:20:57
The midfield is a concern and I don't think any of us can deny that, with only 3 first team regulars in Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho. Any long term injuries to either and we're in trouble.

If no midfielder arrives today, we will have to hope RLC and Ampadu can step in and step up when and where needed. Because with only 3 senior midfielders, its inevitable that they will be called upon at some point.

16.) 31 Aug 2021 16:45:30
Ed002 reports a premier league club are bidding for kamara, could it be us? Now kounde isn't happening thanks.

{Ed002's Note - no.}

30 Aug 2021 16:48:09
Ed002, besides Koundé and Saúl, any other names that could be incoming before tomorrow's deadline? Or is it those 2 or bust?

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has really changed in terms of targets although a couple of players there was interest in has been dropped.}

1.) 30 Aug 2021 20:13:55
Thanks Ed002. Looking unlikely but anything can happen.
Can I ask your view on Chelsea's window? Good, bad, in-between?

{Ed002's Note - Followed too many flakes too far.}

2.) 30 Aug 2021 21:21:50
Brilliant, another wasted window.

3.) 30 Aug 2021 21:16:33
Ed002 is it true that atletico want to get a replacement for saul to join us and are they in for anyone thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Sort of, but it is more complicated than this.}

4.) 30 Aug 2021 21:31:57
Ed002, I know you don't like guessing, but do you think Chelsea's window is likely finished and no more names in?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

5.) 30 Aug 2021 21:49:42
As frustrating as it is that we’ve targeted players who’ve not worked out ( possibly ) haaland Saul kounde etc, I hope we don’t buy for sake of it and settle for 3rd or 4th choice targets, club have done well moving players on snd that was always going to be a big task, thank you in advance Ed because tomorrow will be a busy one if your about to answer us,

30 Aug 2021 08:46:46
Now Koundé deal is off and no midfielder looks likely. A good window has soured very quickly. Hopefully we see something happen shortly.
Ed002, any updates on Anjorin, Drinkwater or Barkley?

{Ed002's Note - Ross Barkley (AM/CM) will be available for sale. Aston Villa are not looking to keeping him on a permanent deal whilst Newcastle offered an option if they could not sign Willock. The thought is that West Ham or Everton may offer a loan option. Knuckle-dragging bonehead Chelsea want shot of.
Tino Anjorin (AM/) Could potentially be sent on loan - Lokomotiv Moscow and Augsburg have both spoken with Chelsea. Chelsea would like to keep him on the books but Lokomotiv want a permanent deal if possible. It will be up to the player.
Danny Drinkwater (CM) ideally sell him but may need to drop to the Championship if he stays in England. Else he will be loaned for the final year of his contract or released if the club can agree a deal with him. Reading asked after him during discussions about another player and might provide a solution.}

1.) 30 Aug 2021 10:38:01
RJ you're supposed to be on a break.

2.) 30 Aug 2021 11:11:04
Thanks for the information Ed. Much appreciated.

27 Aug 2021 22:36:22
Ed002, have Chelsea given up on Saúl?

{Ed002's Note - Not as such - Chelsea will not provide the assurances the player wants as the club will simply not do that. So for now Saul has given up on Chelsea. As I explained - it is difficult to reach an agreement.}

1.) 28 Aug 2021 00:20:02
Sounds like Saul wants a guarantee of play time similar to youth prospects as we’ve seen and the club has said no. Which is fair enough. If I was a higher up I’d never tie up my managers hands by telling who and when to play.

2.) 28 Aug 2021 07:57:01
Fair play to chelsea for sticking to not promising any player playing time, game time needs to be earned, this does still leave us needing a midfielder though,

3.) 28 Aug 2021 08:05:14
Hopefully we can instead look at trying to get Tchouameni in as he shares as an agent with Koundé.

4.) 28 Aug 2021 10:27:08
If there are no last minutes competitors for Saul Niguez’s signature, I think he’s the one that Chelsea will sign this summer.
Strongly believe that Tchouameni should very much be a target for next season.

5.) 28 Aug 2021 10:57:25
Can't imagine there hasn't been a "whilst were here" type conversation with the agent RJ28P. We've gone shopping, and come home with more than we bargained for - haven't we?

6.) 28 Aug 2021 11:06:10
I'd just keep RLC around as one of the four midfielders, look to Tchouameni next summer.

A fit and focused RLC has previously played Kovacic out of the team, but fitness will always be the big question mark.

7.) 28 Aug 2021 15:55:03
I agree J, I think we will probably have better options next summer.

8.) 28 Aug 2021 16:57:55
I’d like to add another midfielder this summer sometimes waiting is costly. We can’t rely on RLC even when he is fit he only plays in spurts during a game and he is never going to be first choice unless of injuries to others: I don’t trust him as a reliable backup.

9.) 28 Aug 2021 18:11:28
How quickly Gilmour and Gallagher are forgotten?

10.) 28 Aug 2021 20:37:59
Never Studley.

11.) 28 Aug 2021 23:08:08
Do you guys not think despite how good he is going forward that Mount could eventually be one of our midfield two in games where we’re probably going to dominate and have a Werner/ Ziyech/ Pulisic up next to Rom and Kai? I think Mount would be unreal in that box to box position.

12.) 29 Aug 2021 01:34:14
Give up on Saul and get Rice done. Something we will heavily regret when united end up signing him next year.

05 Aug 2021 15:41:10
Am going to break my self-imposed exile to say Lukaku will be a brilliant, world class signing if it happens. Don't like the reports today suggesting Inter's owners are having 2nd thoughts about selling him because of the perceived backlash. Ed002, do they have any validity or just media frenzy?

{Ed002's Note - The owners are the ones pressing for a sale. If they change their minds and opt to sell Martinez instead there would still be backlash.}

1.) 05 Aug 2021 15:51:47
Gotcha Ed002, so file it under nonsense.
Will you be going to Dublin for the Super Cup?

{Ed002's Note - I have decided not to go.}

2.) 05 Aug 2021 16:02:04
Why would he go to Dublin for the Super Cup when it's in Belfast?

{Ed0666's Note - there was a last minute venue change didnt you get the email Bru?

3.) 05 Aug 2021 16:05:43
And that's the benefit of proof-reading my messages. D'oh!

4.) 05 Aug 2021 18:56:00
RJ, I’ve had reservations about Lukaku but reflecting on it I think he is exactly the type of striker we need. He has a point to prove and obviously has a tie to the club. If we get him plus Kounde and a midfielder we will go toe -to toe with City- I love pre-season optimism.

5.) 05 Aug 2021 19:54:22
Nice to see you back RJ. Despite the. shall we say drama?, I still feel like you're a good poster, and would like to see you staying, and posting, on this page :)

28 Aug 2021 20:59:54
Terrific performance and a great point today.
Kanté injury is concerning - another midfielder is essential as RLC clearly not suited to the pivot.

1.) 28 Aug 2021 22:28:06
That’s what I’ve been saying RJ , we need cover for Kante. Kova is okay but don’t fancy RLC. Hopefully we will make a late move for someone.

27 Aug 2021 18:45:26
So no Saúl, Koundé delayed and now Zouma is falling through because of the knee injury from 5 years ago.
Roll on next Tuesday and this bloody window ending.

1.) 27 Aug 2021 21:01:53
Can't say that I am bothered by not signing either of them.
Marginal gains are always to be applauded but I feel we could wait until next season with our current options.

2.) 27 Aug 2021 21:53:24
We have addressed the most important weakness in our squad but I’m not sure if we have done enough to close the gap on City, Man U and Liverpool.

3.) 28 Aug 2021 00:25:51
I’m always a sit back and watch and the judge sort of person.

25 Aug 2021 15:49:42
Ed002, besides Koundé, Saúl and outgoings, anything else we can expect in the next week, or is that us done?

{Ed002's Note - It is all a little difficult right now.}

1.) 25 Aug 2021 16:18:22
Sorry Ed002, in terms of Koundé and Saúl, or in terms of other stuff happening?

{Ed002's Note - Everything.}

2.) 25 Aug 2021 17:32:42
That's not the reassuring confidence I was hoping for! But I trust Marina and co - was sceltical before but right things are happening.

23 Aug 2021 08:04:11
What I am most delighted about from our opening three matches is we've scored 3 tap-ins/ close range finishes from players getting into the 18 and 6 yard box more. How many times last year did we see crosses float through the corridor of uncertainty begging for a touch? Start to convert those and we get at LEAST another 15-20 goals.

1.) 23 Aug 2021 12:01:52
Bang on, havertz should of scored, James made wrong decision and passed to mount instead of lukaku and Leno with top save so another day we score 4/ 5, liverool next though so can’t be as gung ho, kante will be needed and while lukaku is v VVD maybe werner can cause problems.

2.) 23 Aug 2021 13:42:05
The thing about Werner is that he makes us more solid defensively and challenges any team that plays a high line.
I wouldn't expect such a dominant display from Rom against the Liverpool CB and they won't allow through balls to him as the Arsenal did.
I wonder if Chilly Kante and Werner might start to give us more pace in key areas.
I expect a cagey affair because neither team will want to lose.

3.) 23 Aug 2021 13:58:51
I agree 100% with every point you make Strasbourg including some likely team changes.

4.) 23 Aug 2021 20:25:35
TT is just so good at rotation. Very diligent planning that we are shifting in Chilwell for Alonso, Werner for Havertz and Kante for Kova for this huge match. Fits perfectly for a match v Liverpool. And of course, I may be wrong:D.

5.) 23 Aug 2021 20:47:33
Yep hermann, I think TT will make changes for the game against the Scousers.

Playing Werner is a good call, it will make them play a bit deeper.

Kante is a must for any every game.

Chilwell because I’m sure defending against Salah will be as important as being a wing back.

The one I’m not sure about is will TT pick Mount
or Havertz.

31 Jul 2021 20:04:34
So Fabrizio Romano reckons Koundé is going to be our only signing for a fee this window.
Disappointing if true, but I suppose we have to seriously consider this possibility.
As a result, which 3 loan players from last season would you add to the squad? For me, it's Malang Sarr, RLC and Broja.

1.) 31 Jul 2021 20:52:45
Non-Penalty Goals vs Expected goals for the PL since Tuchel arrived:

-Chelsea: 20:29.3 | Difference: -9.28
Rank in PL: 20th
(Below all relegated teams such as Fulham, Sheffield Utd and West Brom, for context)

Compared to the winners
-Manchester City: 50:34.6 Difference: +15.40
Rank in PL: 1st
(A team about to acquire Jack Grealish in PL record deal and Harry Kane, potentially, for another record deal)

I do not mean to be overly negative here, but being pragmatic, the club can have no complaints come next Christmas if they are nowhere near competing for the PL. Tuchel cannot turn water in to wine again and if the reports of no signing beyond Kounde are true; despite a month being left in the window; words are not sufficient to express my disappointment.

An elite level striker (Either Haaland, Lukaku, Kane or Lewandowski) was needed. The club need one more than any other team in Europe, despite the incredible, albeit unexpected, CL win. If all are out of reach; expectations of competing for all major honours again next season need to be recalibrated.

Despite a month being left, the reality is that it is less than two weeks to the super cup. Time is running out and whilst it’s important to be calm, it is not looking promising in the area of the squad which requires strengthening the most.

2.) 31 Jul 2021 21:16:49
I’m sure we will be announcing a signing next week and maybe two more will follow very soon after that.

Let’s all be patient and trust that the club is doing everything it can to sign quality players.

3.) 31 Jul 2021 22:39:17
RJ28P You are a troll and not welcome on here, go get yourself a girlfriend or boyfriend and stop pestering us and the hard working EDs. grow up.

4.) 31 Jul 2021 23:37:01
Careful BlueDay1, you'll be told you are trolling because you are being honest in admitting not everything is perfect.

{Ed0666's Note - you’re getting grief because you’re having a tantrum and acting like a diva. You’re gonna sign Kounde one of the best 3 centre backs that are moving in Europe I’m my opinion (The other two being Alaba and Toress) and I’m sure working on other deals that may or may not come to fruition. Even if you don’t sign anyone apart from Kounde you have an outrageous squad that is very capable of winning. Believe me Kounde is an extraordinary player who will elevate you markedly.

5.) 01 Aug 2021 02:34:35
Ed0666, let me give you an extended answer to prove I am not trolling as I keep being accused of.
I agree we have a fantastic squad and a world class manager. We are European Champions which is an immense albeit unexpected achievement this season. I have not said at any point I don't think that. However, I think it is legitimately fair to say that in the past season, the biggest barriers to CFC challenging for the Premier League title has not been lack of defensive stability, nor has it been actual creativity. It has been taking chances.
Our chance creation and xG has been on the level of Manchester City, our conversion rate has not. You can attribute this to a number of factors: the blunt truth is that there is no consistently reliable finisher in the squad at this moment in time. Will Kai Havertz be that man? Possibly, but I think relying on him in that regard stifles his creative abilities. Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech and Pulisic all are not this type of player. Werner's on a crisis of confidence and form in front of goal. Resultantly, in my view, Chelsea needed to go out this window and bring in a striker who can lead the line as well as finish consistently. The best Chelsea sides in PL era have had that sort of centre forward: Hasselbaink, Drogba, Diego Costa. I'd even throw Giroud in that list too.
The obvious names for this are Erling HÃ¥land, Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski. I think it's fair to say the latter two will not happen and if Kane does leave, it will be to Manchester City. The former feels like this summer's Jadon Sancho. Chelsea are expecting a discount which will not come and as the days tick by, this becomes more clear. For Lukaku, the player seems settled in Italy and he has quashed any notion of leaving, so this appears unlikely too. Are there less obvious names? Yes, but they'd be more of a gamble, something I don't think Chelsea can really afford considering how well that has paid off in the recent years.
A similar debate can be made about the midfield: how many times have Chelsea looked weak and exposed when Kanté is missing, injured or suspended? Kovacic and Jorginho are brilliant technical players but again the best Chelsea sides in Premier League era had a Makelele, Essien, Matic foil on the midfield. We should currently have one still: he's captaining West Ham instead. It's pretty clear they are in a poor financial position, that the player wants a return to Chelsea and that a deal is plausible. I would have been jumping on this if I had been in charge, especially as Tuchel likes the player too. I am not saying Jules Koundé isn't a great player. He's brilliant too and certainly is a top young central defender. However given that we've just won the UCL mainly on defensive solidity, this to me was the least critical position this summer for the reasons explained above.
In regards to sales. Tuchel clearly doesn't think that Abraham is the man and his authority must be absolute. There is clearly interest in the player. Chelsea appear to be pricing him out with unrealistic valuations. There are a number of other names this appears to apply to: Alonso, Zappacosta, Kenedy, Bakayoko, Emerson to name a few. We need to accept that a number of these players have been poor signings and have no chance of enhancing the current squad as they are not good enough in Tuchel's view. They also deserve to focus on their careers rather than being frozen out or stuck in loan limbo again. I fear the latter is more likely, meaning this same conversation will role around next summer too.
I'll finish by saying although Thomas Tuchel has signed a new deal, he has previously left two clubs because of reasons relating to transfers. We've seen this same stubborn attitude towards buying and selling wreck the 3rd year of Jose's 1st and 2nd spell, as well as Conté's 2nd year. He has been abundantly clear last year about the need for additional options in the midfield and about the need for a striker. Fail to provide these and a poor start to the season and the British media rumour mill will start to churn, which is never a good thing.
I hope you now appreciate I am not trolling; I am just concerned I have seen this script before and last time it ended in Bakayoko, Morata, Zappacosta and Drinkwater, none of whom have been a success. I agree there is still time to rectify this and I hope the club do, but with 2 weeks until our first match (and it being another chance at silverware), I would have hoped we'd have made our major acquisitions beforehand to have time for them to adjust to our style of play and environment beforehand.

{Ed0666's Note - you’re in a healthy shaped financially, you’re an allure for any player in world football. I appreciate you’re exspansive response and the time and effort you took in writing it but if you know that you need a DM and a striker don’t you think Maria and Tuchel know this? The club will make signings and quality ones as Chelsea invariably do but you throwing you’re toys out of the pram isn’t gonna help any. The transfer window doesent shut for a while be patient and I’m sure you’re patience will be rewarded. And if it isn’t and that’s a big IF don’t discount Werner finishing off those chances you speak of. He’s had a year of premiership experience under his belt, the confidence of winning a massive massive trophy and let’s face it he can’t carry on missing sitters. You’ll be ok. At least you’re not signing Bowen line we may be. Have a super Sunday mate.

6.) 01 Aug 2021 05:58:45
Thanks ed0666 for spending time to respond … it’s been long that we have heard from you here. Hope all is well.

I truly hope we don’t let city run away with it even thought they may have signed jack and Harry.

RJ28P you’ve made your point which I’m sure is known by all… how about just waiting to see how things unfold .

{Ed0666's Note - no worries fella I haven’t been around on the Chelsea page much because I was fighting fires on the Liverpool and Everton pages 😂

I’m not so sure city will run away with it as Everton have signed Townsend lol. No seriously I think Chelsea have an excellent chance and I’m sure you’ll reinforce with some humdinger transfers of which kounde will be one. If anyone is short it’s Liverpool. I’d like a midfielder and a pack wide forward but I appreciate we have restrictions financially so maybe a couple of out before we bring 1 or 2 in.

7.) 01 Aug 2021 00:44:17
Keep the the moaning about lack of signings until after the window has closed please. Even if we don’t sign anyone by the Super Cup, so what, we will still win it. Calm down.

8.) 01 Aug 2021 06:16:39
RJ28P, I think you're looking at it a little one dimensionally; as if this coming season is our last.

It would appear Lukaku isn't available, same goes for Lewandowski and Kane just isn't going to move between Spurs and Chelsea. Then we have Haaland who, at an all round huge price there remains a chance we could sign. But, as top strikers go, it's Haaland or bust.

We aren't going to spend for the sake of it. A half decent option, like a Ings, will still carry a big fee, and won't be much better than what we have. Isn't it better to keep our powder dry for a year, if we can't get the players we want?

Like I said the other day, this is the start for this squad of players. The core of this squad could be together for the next decade, we need to think long-term, not just about what we'll win next season.

9.) 01 Aug 2021 07:15:13
J that's fine in theory - but if we have a poor season, the likes of Bayern will look at Havertz etc. and think we can take them back. Then you suddenly you end up with a lot of gaps very quickly. Plus next season all of Kanté, Kovacic and Jorginho will be approaching or be 30+.
Jimbo, Dareryk- Fine, I'll just stop posting until August 31st and then I'll assess the situation. I do, however, think constantly labelling me as a troll is unfair.
Ed066, your comments on Bowen are harsh. He's an utter workhorse, has an eye for goal that gets sacrificed in WHU's less expansive system. He'd get at least 10-15 goals in Liverpool's side as a rotation option. And as an added bonus, it means you might finally give up on Adama. Plus he is homegrown which helps squadbuilding. What is not to like?

{Ed0666's Note - if he was signing for Chelsea would you be happy? He’s ok but a downgrade on what we have and for that kind of money of money we should be signing a player of equivalent ability. I get he’s pacy, can play on both flanks and scores a goal and he’s got more to his game than traore and if he does sign I’ll support him as he’ll be a red. I truly hope he proves me wrong.

10.) 01 Aug 2021 08:23:18

We'll look forward to your post on the 31st at 11pm (not before) .

I genuinely hope that you feel better about the future then.

11.) 01 Aug 2021 09:31:33
RJ28P, nowhere has Fabrizio said that. Go on, prove mr wrong.

12.) 01 Aug 2021 12:59:00
Half bread is better than chin-chin; let’s sign the Jules Kounde first before talking of other ‘big transfers’.

13.) 01 Aug 2021 13:13:02
RJ28p I think you definitely have a point, but it's too early to be critical. Once the window is over, you're responses will be more than fair and I agree with them. Chelsea simply cannot rest on there laurels once again.

14.) 01 Aug 2021 14:41:13
We can not afford to sell Abraham.

15.) 01 Aug 2021 13:50:48
On last season’s performances I’m not a fan of Ziyech but him CHO and Pusilic would be in my squad all day long over Bowen.

16.) 01 Aug 2021 18:33:29
I have just caught up with posts. I want to make it clear that I expressed an opinion that we should wait until the transfer window ends before we make judgements. : not that you should not continue to post and I certainly did not accuse you of being a troll. If we do not make any significant signings, I too will be disappointed and I am sure there will be a lot of discussion on this site. Let’s hope for the best.

Ed002, I know you don't like guessing, but do you think Chelsea's window is likely finished and no more names in?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Thanks Ed002. Looking unlikely but anything can happen.
Can I ask your view on Chelsea's window? Good, bad, in-between?

{Ed002's Note - Followed too many flakes too far.}

Board too busy selling to get replacements in and we've been left with a wafer-thin midfield low on quality past 1st 2/ 3 choices.

That's not the reassuring confidence I was hoping for! But I trust Marina and co - was sceltical before but right things are happening.

Sorry Ed002, in terms of Koundé and Saúl, or in terms of other stuff happening?

{Ed002's Note - Everything.}

Barkley's not got a number this season so that suggests he has minimal prospects.

Presumably because we offered an option to buy and Atleti would like a permanent deal?
