Great interview on sly sports with Enzo Fernandez talking about his love for the club and how he is now modelling his game on Frank Lampard as a true box to box midfielder, interesting that his stats after 150 games are identical to Lampards at the same point as well. We all know how Lamps went on to become a club legend and Enzo says he wants to follow in his footsteps, he tells Sky Sports why he is excited to be part of Chelsea's future and also responds to praise from Jamie Carragher who described him as one of the worlds best now at arriving late into the box to finish chances created, he has 11 goals in 36 games this season and is our second highest scorer behind Joao Pedro who has 14.
I'm really hoping the Real Madrid rumoured interest is not true but not sure they could afford him with Egghead putting a quarter of a billion price tag on his head!

Sadly I think he will leave for RM in the summer. My guess is around £140m would be enough to persuade the club to sell. Of course other fans will have a different valuation.

Might just deopend on whether or not we get Champions League qualification place again? My concern over building almost entitely with youngsters for peaking by the 2030s is that our best talent may not want to stay if we go backwards from where we've got to already. OK so last season was clearly an improvement on the one before in terms of league finisg place (two up) and the Conference League trophy plus CWC. But if we hgo trophyless this season plus don't qualify there may be grumblings from our elite players and/or certainly demands for significant wage hikes?
This is why some of us have questioned slowness of squad building/rebuilding plus focus almost entirely on youth and potential. Certainly it has reaped some rich rewards with CP and Estevao and LC and some others. but then likes of Gittens (not out injured for a couple of months at least. and we wish him well) and Delap and not a ready to go in EPL left CB replacment for injured LC has imperilled further progress forwards this season.
Bottom line for some in our squad I reckon is that we have to get ECL qualification again.

I think Enzo will go to Madrid for around £120 million in the summer. As for what players say, they all say they love the club until they move with a big pay rise.

As EF is under a long term contract, if he leaves and it's a big if it will be gor the fee we say it will be but obviously Rzm will try and throw in players they no longer want, let's test them and ask for players they want yo keep.

Bill, these long term contracts are irrelevant if a player wants to go and the price is right. True, they protect the value of the player but it is doesn’t mean you can keep your best players. If Madrid want Enzo and he wants the transfer it will happen.
On the flip side, we will be stuck will players who are not good enough whose value won’t be protected on long term deals. TBH, I don’t believe the hierarchy care that much about building a top class team, they are more interested in their trading players strategy.

Surely if the owners want what’s best for their investment they would want a top class team?
Too think otherwise would seem strange to me. I personally wouldn’t invest in a company without wanting it to be successful.

Tom, you would think so and I hope so but my instinct doesn’t feel that that is the case. Companies and people invest for many different reasons: no doubt they eventually want a gain for it but in our case not necessarily success on the pitch.

Our current owners seem to have a history of sporting and investment success. I’m sure they didn’t take over Chelsea and get involved more broadly with “soccer” to lose money.
Success on the pitch is a way to make profit and increased asset value more likely.
