Hi Edd 002, I've followed comments etc re Mason Mount and his representatives demands re a new contract. Whilst he certainly may be worth an increase on a 60k per week contract to re-sign, I'm not sure his "reported" demands to have parity with the likes of our top earners ( a couple of whom were mistakes) are warranted. My gut feeling is the club is/ are looking to bring wages into perspective in the future, yes, the EPL is right now the place to be (as the undoubted no 1 league fan wise), but, demanding 3 x the wages of other leagues is not sustainable, along with new rules I feel there may a a significant change coming to valuations.
Personally I'd let Mount go (for a fee) if he (and his reps) think he's worth more than the club is willing to offer.
Would love to hear your thoughts Ed?
The old adage, a champion team always beat a team of champions springs to mind!

{Ed002's Note - The situation is that the demands of the player are well beyond what the club are willing to pay and the club feel that they have already made a very good offer to the player. There have been approaches from three clubs and Chelsea would rather not sell, and the would be an issue for two of those clubs. We will see what happens in the summer.}

I’d let him leave. Personally I don’t think he fits in the formation we’ll be using. Unfortunate, but the honest truth.

2.) 09 Mar 2023 19:23:42
What formation will we be using?

3.) 09 Mar 2023 19:41:23
Sell him.

4.) 09 Mar 2023 20:34:30
Personally I would be gutted if he left, I love him as a player and also as a representative of the club, however I also understand the situation the club feels it’s in, in terms of contractual value of the player. I would be even more gutted if he left for on a free as other players have done recently. It really is a slight catch 21 in my opinion. I just hope it comes to a quick conclusion and doesn’t drag on forever.

5.) 10 Mar 2023 05:12:36
Thanks Ed002 for the reply.
Hopefully common sense, his stated love for the club and a little time to ponder may bring about an agreement that leaves both parties happy.
I agree with your post cech, but, with Lukaku hopefully gone (preferably sooner rather than later) along with PEA and maybe Sterling, our "top earners" will be genuine "world class" players, I refer to Kante, Silva and probably Enzo. Reece is on slightly less, but substantial as he will definitely be world class one day soon and is young. Mount (whilst I love him) is exceptional, but not (and will never be) world class. If the stance is agent driven, hopefully he gets over it and stays and earns enough to be a wealthy man at the end of his career, if it is player driven I'd get rid asap, he'll aMount to nothing longterm, sorry couldn't resist that lol.
Hopefully it all works out.

6.) 15 Mar 2023 20:19:22
If he loved the club so much he wouldn’t be so greedy. And if he played well enough he might get paid like Reece James.

7.) 16 Mar 2023 06:53:43
I think Mount still has to find himsef a role / position in the team.
as far as attitude goes, he has always given his best . love his engine and energy.

Money is always a discussion and i feel that that will be sorted. Mount has mostly been injury free and can contribute for homegrown quota + a squad player.

I hope he stays and is a part of Chelsea for years to come. He is quality.

Yep, exactly Tom. Within a multi club ownership situation one would think/ hope that a players perceived, or possible deficiencies would be addressed with a view to them being eventually integrated into the CFC squad as the finished article whilst remaining within the club structure. Ed002's comment that Webster has options for loan being Heerenven or Stasbourg, at Stasbourg we have input, at Herenveen we have none under a loan situation. A prime example is Jamal at Bayern who we lost because the gap between academy and first team was too great. Players want to play, if they are given a route to where they want to be ( rather than a vacant space for a year or 2) they will be onboard. It's about providing pathways (clearly defined) to these younger players that if they work hard and perform there is a next step and eventually (if they have grown) a possible first team spot at Chelsea.

Tom posted a while ago re waiting to see how players return after a serious injury. Broja is still a "wait and see", RLC came back but CHO has never been the same player since his. I can only guess it's a confidence issue as he obviously passed a medical for his loan move to Germany. The young Portugese lad we've just purchased is on a par attack wise, but much better defensively than CHO so I'd rather CHO was sold. If the Palace rumours are true he'd fit perfectly there, far less pressure to perform than at a top 6 (really wanted to say top 4) side. My reasoning here is look at CG, was huge at Palace when on loan, but hasn't looked nearly the same player with the pressure to perform/ get starts at a top club.
No disrespect meant to Palace, survival is there aim, whereas at the "top" clubs the aim is to win trophies.
As an aside, I was impressed with what Patrick did with Palace last year, but, no money to improve and a CG gone this year ( and Zaha too now this year) I think they will be right in the relegation battle next season under Hodgeson. Veira's appointment at Strasbourg (sorry spelling) is in my mind a masterstroke, he will develop young talented players to be ready to step up to pl whilst putting Strasbourg (spelling again lol) into a challenging position in the top half of the French League. If BlueCo can purchase a Portugese club I only see their foresight as a "win, win" .

I understand your opinion ilo, but I'm certainly not looking thru "tinted nor biased" glasses, rather thru my "realistic" glasses. The priorities (and rightly so, imo) are Caciedo (at around 80 mill) and another DM according to Ed002 ( unfortunately we missed Ugarte) so that means Lavia or Kone (both 40+) . These purchases allow Enzo to play further fwd with more creative intent. We also have Santos to integrate into the squad. Then, we all know, we actually need and are targeting, a CF. Think Vlahovic at Fiorentina (which matches Pochs attacking style) rather than at Juve (defensive) could be perfect. Hopefully the club may be able to do a player plus cash deal (Lukaku) but will still cost us. Jackson coming in, Broja still there ( one of those 2 I feel will be loaned) .
So, as Tom and Matt mentioned above, after a big spend, we must, like every other club, adhere to FFP rules, so a new keeper may go on the back burner and we have options available.
To correct you Kepa is on just over half of Sterlings weekly wage.
As Tom stated above most fans would like to upgrade our keeper/ s, but, we may already have that upgrade in place in another year in Slonina at a cost of 11m and under Poch's new GK coach maybe Kepa improves next season.
We all as Chelsea fans have our own opinions and agenda's in regards to players in and out and how it should or shouldn't happen, how we should or shouldn't play, but it's always good to hear others opinions and their reasons for those opinions.

Agree guys re his injury timing and his ability, and willingness to play any position to get a start and help the team. Despite playing at CB RB and RWB, totally foreign positions for him, never once complained. I think he'll be a brute in Italy, and less physicality will prolong his career with the niggles he has. Thanks for your service and Good Luck.

Both Maignan and Costa would be upgrades, hence their price, but, as you rightly point out Jimbo, finances may come into it. Onana, for me, is only a Mendy slight upgrade, so no, not really for the money quoted.
Where we are in a better situation is, if we can't afford/ sign a Costa/ Maignan upgrade we can live with Kepa as no1 for next season ( like most I wanted him gone after his petulance under Sarrri) but he has taken his opportunity with Mendy's injury, and redeemed himself to a point. He has matured and has shown leadership qualities this season in difficult circumstances. Luckily we have Slonina as a fallback (hopefully our future in a year or two) so if we sign a Maignan or Costa now we can loan to a championship (or hopefully PL side) and if all else fails Kepa as no 1 with Slonina playing Cup games and putting pressure on.
Win win really!
So much could change under Poch!

Unfortunately if Lavia is fit and available which allows Enzo and Caicedo to be more attacking as left and right no8's, CG becomes a bench player to finish a game, not something I see him wanting, so he must be sold in the summer. Golding (from the acadamy), and looking good in his cameo will fill that void.
My feeling is Reece will be sold to RM in the summer (academy, huge profit) where he can shine weekly until CL pressure (or injuries) comes.
Now if we can just get the useless 325k a week diver/ non worker Sterling off our books we can start to be a real team!

LC has done well this season playing totally out of position, he made two very telling runs forward v Fulham, both from a lcb position rather than a lb position, once chilly replaced Sterling Levi looked a lot more comfortable as chilly tracks back to help defend whereas Sterling might, or might not.
I think what Poch wants to see (when injuries are not an issiue) is Malo and Chilly as right and left backs defending then bombing fwd when we attack, rather than just the right side as at present. Lavia will sit and create a back 3, Silva (who has played out of position at LCB to accommodate Disasi) on his right, Levi on his left.
Lavia for me is the missing link to this team being competitive with the very best!

Mbappe, never say never, but any player, given the option would want to sign for RM. I think he will end up there, either this year or next.
This is where Chelsea are being very smart imo, Caicedo ultimately wants RM (who don't want him at this time) but although the purchase price is high ( he will be motivated to prove himself) the sell on to RM in a couple of years when he has hopefully excelled for us will be huge (ala Hazard) whilst those 2 years will have allowed us to "blood" a new player to fill the same role at a significantly cheaper purchase price.
We unfortunately missed out on Ugarte (due to timing/ or his preference) who would have been good, but Caseido is easily, at 20m more a better/ PL proven fit, with a better sell on value.
Vlahovic, if we can get him at around 70m will be amazing under MP I feel, Harry Kane mk2 but 6 years younger.
I'm liking where the club is heading!

Sorry, and we've got CC as well. Certainly got the talent across midfield, just not the experience yet.
Ilo, I personally wouldn't be surprised to see CG sold later this window after MP has had a chance to evaluate. Whist we can't deny his work ethic and enthusiasm I'm not sure he's Chelsea quality tbh.

Everyone seems to forget we have midfielder A. Santos returning from loan now he can get his work permit. I expect he will be challenging for a starting position, and could possibly be an option beside Caceido in a 4231. Very versatile and talented player.
