Hi Eds,
Long time visitor, first time poster. Thanks for all the great work you do, I'm just wondering whether or not the rumours of interest in Marco Amelia are true? Seems a bit strange as although we need an experienced third choice he spent the last 2 seasons in an amateur league and Serie B as a back up keeper. If not Amelia, is there another free agent target?

Cheers guys!

HazardousEden

{Ed002's Note - Marco Amelia has been at the club and they are looking to take him as cover for the short-term. After making offers for another goalkeeper which were rejected in the summer the club did not look for alternatives, perhaps they should have done.}

I know all this talk about Sarri and Hazard is driving us all nuts and we have a CAS appeal to deal with etc etc etc but take a minute to think that Lamps, Jody and JT could take up the reins. For me I’ve always wanted us to have a “fergie” in the modern era and the ban (if upheld) seems like a perfect opportunity to take the punt, I know some say Frank is not ready and I’m not disagreeing but maybe it’s less about him being ready and more about us looking to develop an identity and initiative which the club had tried to do with Maurizio.

Frank will tell you how Mourinho changed his career and how work is what made him what he was, he was never the most gifted lad but he became it! The best midfielder in premier league history. I really love the thought of an 05 reminiscent 4-3-3 with lamps and JT on the sidelines, though we’d be hard pushed to find another Robben!

Lukaku to UTD done according to Phil Neville, bullet dodged in my opinion - what do we think lads?

HazardousEden

1.) 07 Jul 2017 18:44:04
Bullet dodged? He's one of the best young strikers in the world, plus he's proven he can hack the premier league. his goals to games ratio speaks for itself really. I don't understand why people hate on him so much.

2.) 07 Jul 2017 19:12:07
Hardly hating on him - seem to remember Eds saying him leaving was because he had upset someone at the club and I don't think he's worth £75 million quid! Great finisher, not disputing that, no first touch though.

3.) 07 Jul 2017 19:24:15
I think he will be a huge hit anywhere he goes, sadly its not to us. Anyway there are other strikers available, so I won't lose my sleep about him.

4.) 07 Jul 2017 23:42:12
A striker's job is to finish not to have a beautiful first touch. That's for the Matas, Hazards and Silvas.

Ed002 said on the Liverpool page that he is "aware of the situation with Rodriguez, but Liverpool are not involved. " Any one else feel like this means he's headed our way? The fact he doesn't name a possible destination and Ed's insistence to stay away from Chelsea related queries, seems he could be headed our way.

Don't rule out Alonso also, I think Conte views Brana as more of a centre back (wisely in my view, we all know his right back years are over and he is unsuited for RWB when we revert to 3-5-2) that would give us Aina and Dave on the right and Alonso and Rodriguez for the left.

Positive signs.

Did I miss something, when did we sign Rodriguez?

So Guus has told a sports channel in Holland he is to stay on in an advisory capacity to help aide the progress of our youth. He also mentioned there being too many out on loan. Hope this means some of the talented kids get a chance!

HazardousEden

1.) 22 May 2016 17:49:13
He hardly gave a raft of chances to those in and around the squad during his time here. let's see what happens.

2.) 22 May 2016 18:43:39
Have to admit that was my first thought too mate!

3.) 22 May 2016 23:57:42
He barely gave a chance for our kids when we had nothing to lose, he is as bad as Mourihno in developing kids.

4.) 23 May 2016 04:27:20
It's easier said than done to cut down on our loan assortment. The club will look to move players on via sale however it's extremely difficult to find a club of interest to the player who is capable of meeting the players wage demands (which we inflate) and all the while affording a transfer fee. This is how Marko Marin has been tied to the club for 4 years when the club were looking to move him after 1.

I think on the back of our season it's fairly easy to speculate on certain arrivals/departures with that said I believe we'll set up something like this next season.

GK: Courtois

Poor season but still has bags of class at a young age. We never should have sold Petr (big contribution to our problems imo) but given his performance last year, it's safe to say his position isn't under threat.

CB: Zouma

Monster! Can't wait to see him develop into the worlds best.

CB: JT

May be controversial but I just can't see him leaving

CB: Bonucci/Marquinhos/Ivanovic

I struggle with the fact Branislav Ivanovic gets a new contract off the back of his performances this season and John Terry could leave. With that in mind if Brana stays I imagine he will be a peripheral figure to a new defensive signing. My personal preference would be Varane (or Christensen back from loan) but rumours suggest these two are the biggest targets.

RWB: Cuadrado

Conte is a known admirer of 3-5-2 and of Cuadrado personally, Cuadrado operated in this role during his stay with both Udinese and Fiorentina and has a big engine. I find it hard to believe the club would sell a player Conte was seriously courting during his time with Juve.

LWB: Azpilicueta

Best full back in Europe on his day.

CM: Fabregas

Still class, just needs a tenacious partner.

CM: Nainggolan

The engine we crave. A box to box midfielder who can play too. For too long we have had static midfield options. I imagine this area will be the one of the greatest reform.

CAM: Willian

Pointed to the badge on his arm, he hates Tottenham and I love him. He's still not the finished article mind, his season has been rationalised as fantastic simply because our collective season has been terrible which is an inaccurate evaluation as far as I'm concerned, he's been the best player in our team for sure, but he's still not been near worthy of the team of the year.

CF: Hazard

He's got to stay, play him as a trequartista and watch him flourish.

ST: Costa/Higuain/Griezmann

I'm not sure whether Costa will stay or go, if he does it will most likely be back to Atletico, perhaps as part of a deal for Griezmann, Higuain has been on fire at Napoli and could be tempted by a top side.

HazardousEden

1.) 05 May 2016 08:34:21
Agree with most but Willian. I love the way he did that with the badge. But he really is up and down during a match. His corners are very poor. His crossing ain't much better. He doesn't use his pace as much as he should. When azpilicueta has the ball right instead of sprinting down the line or even making a run, he looks to run within 5 yards of Dave. Almost lacks a tactical brain. He's like a baby when he gets a little nudge. and jibs tackles. Can't stand that in a player. Ok he works hard but he doesn't do enough with the ball, or off the ball. Apart from a now and then counter attack. For me he slows the game down so much most of the time. I think most our problems this year is that right hand side. Ivanovic, Willian, mikel. Defending and attacking.

2.) 05 May 2016 10:23:48
I also agree with most of this (if we are to play a 3-5-2 formation) although I can't believe anyone would put Cuadrado in their team. Yes Conte may like him and he's had a decent loan spell but does no one remember how poor he was last year? Not cut out for the prem at all. I'd actually push Willian to the RWB position, Hazard into CAM and then sign a striker to compliment Costa although I'm not quite sure who.

3.) 05 May 2016 11:14:04
I agree entirely with BLUEBOY 1. I have praised Willian time and agaian for his work rate and tracking back BUT we bought him as an attacking midfielder/ winger and the end product is disappointing. There has been an improvement this season and his dead ball goals got us out of trouble but he has been the best of a poor bunch because he never went backwards like many others. I really do not think we will get anymore out of him and a ridiculous China offer would be good money to have in the bank.

4.) 05 May 2016 14:05:05
Dont rate Willian? . beggars belief.

5.) 05 May 2016 17:08:47
Blimey, Willian not good enough? Ok I think he has tired a bit in last third of the season, mainly because he was carrying virtually the whole team for the first. Yes he's not in the top ten in the world perhaps, whereas Hazard could be on last season's form, but I think Willian would be really important part of an energised and revamped squad. So I agree with you G8.

6.) 05 May 2016 17:09:36
G8: There is no denying his work rate as I and others have said but as an attacking midfielder/ winger his crossing and/ or corners are poor and his scoring rate of a goal every SEVEN games is dreadful for what we bought. Griezmann an attacking midfielder is better than a goal every TWO games. We do not get the end product and I just cannot see him improving any further.

Haven’t seen too much of Reguilon, big fan of Chilwell although he will cost a pretty penny. I think as suggested we should be after two left backs, but Azpi provides viable cover on the left for a back four.

Big fan of Taglafico, always have been, he’s available and cheap, I know his name has been mentioned before but Alex Telles has been a real hit at Porto, despite struggling in the Serie A.

Regardless of who we purchase they’ll be an upgrade on our options at current, Emerson has potential going forward but doesn’t seem to have the same work rate at the back. Whilst Alonso is best described as a liability, while capable of hitting a nice free kick, he’s constantly out of position and at fault for opposition chances, it scares me when he’s on the team sheet.

While I can understand the worries from some of our supporters, I’m really excited about Super Frank ruling the roost. I’ve always thought he was tailored made for the job and I’m not too worried (but I will eat my hat if I’m wrong) because:

A) Now is Frank’s time to get the job.
Something that hasn’t really been considered in the ‘time’ equation is the level that Frank is cutting his teeth at. While I agree it’d be great if he was 3/ 4 years in theoretically, I don’t think after 3 or 4 years he’d even be considered. We’ve struck gold in the fact he is now! As much as it could go poorly, it could go well! We may have our Ferguson. Football is so reliant on players and even without the loan players they had last season Derby would really struggle. They’ve let a whole host of players go this summer and the next years hypothetically could potentially harm Franks credentials rather than aid them. I can understand why our fans are worried for the same reason but as any follower of our youth team will tell you - you shouldn’t be. Transfer ban or no transfer ban the club has been dialling back big transfer expenditure for a while now, I’d argue the last few big signings have been so big because of the proportionate inflation in the market and not because of the clubs dependence on the player I. e Kepa, Morata, Pulisic.

B) It’s been said time and time again but Jody Morris is so key. His relationship with the players in the academy is invaluable and while “knowing the club” isn’t perhaps the best meritocracy for choosing a management team; the fact of the matter is he knows it just about as well as you can.

Im sure we can both agree on Theresa May’s ineptitude haha, Sarri however, I’m a 4-3-3 boy through and through and believe that in time we will see the team thrive. Guardiola didn’t set the world alight at City straight away give him a chance he hasn’t even got his striker yet!

I would argue that Italian football being slow and boring is an outdated assumption, Have you seen Atalanta or Sassuolo? They’re fine examples of working hard off the ball, while I agree there are differences and no league can match the premierships intensity, this doesn’t make the regista redundant.

Still hopefully the team will win you round my friend!

Cat, A-men, I read this site pretty much every day but rarely post due to the negativity, the fickleness nature of some on here is ridiculous, I’m always positive because for so long of my formative years we were second best. Ever since Roman arrived I’ve been lucky enough to witness some great moments and I have never been as optimistic about the club as I am at the moment.

Prior to his appointment I was staunchly anti-Sarri (due to his history of racism and homophobia) but I have been nothing but impressed by both his football and statesmanly nature, even the chewing fag butts!

I think the problem is that people on here generally don’t understand how a Sarri team is intended to play. Jorginho operates as a regista - a deep lying playmaker if you will, now this is completely missed by the press - the argument seems to be that he isn’t scoring or assisting enough but he isn’t David Silva and nor is he meant to be. The regista position exists to dictate tempo, Jorginho is key because he acts as a sieve for the defensive passage of play, he has created an abundance of chances despite his lack of assists and goals.

The general misunderstanding of Kantes position is because he’s operating as a Mezzala - as is Kovacic, a high pressing box to box midfielder Kante is the equivalent of Allan at Napoli, he’s doing everything he was doing before except HIGHER up the pitch - how can that be anything but positive? The issue in the midfield really lies on the reliance on Kovacic, unlike Hamsik from what I’ve seen so far Kovacic/ Barkley/ RLC none really offer the intensity required for this position, Kovacic is growing there week by week and I think Ross will get there but this is the midfield issue, not Jorginho or Kante.

Hazard playing as a trequartista could still come good, I tend to believe he could be amazing if we had a second Mezzala like Coutinho or Fekir to be that Hamsik to his Mertens. I’m excited for Higuain to arrive and would still like a left back but I’m always excited whoever we sign, one of the few posts I’ve ever made on here was being excited about Pato and look at how that worked out. My point is Cat thank you for your positivity and I’ll join ya in a toast to a positive looking future!

I for one would prefer we didn’t have a racist homophobe managing our club; and I certainly wouldn’t pay £8mill for the pleasure.

I'm with ya Tom, while the ban means we can't sign anymore players at the moment, Frank has a fair few players he may look to integrate. Drinkwater is often regarded as a poster boy flop but I still think he could do a job, Bakayoko I tend to think is useless but he could prove us wrong? that's without the countless others on the books (not including James, Mount, Tammy or Tomori because everyone's always loving them off anyway) Pasalic, Kenedy, Zouma, Musonda etc.

I'm positive that Frank can create a side capable of challenging for trophies without any major signings. Looking forward to a good season!

Definitely rubbish - Remember reading that Sandro has a release clause in his Malaga contract of about €10m.
