Just finished watching hing the b Friday night Brighton game again and yes I know I must be a glutton for punishment.
A few things, the more I looked at the EF disallowed goal the more I thought it was a soft foul but if it been the other way I would have been calling out for that decision. In the two games we have conceded two goals that created complete panic both in my opinion should have been easily dealt with by our defence. The latest panic goal was more upsetting because it involved a player I rate highly in Colwill. In the game against the happy hammers he got bullied by Kudos and then started remonstrating to the ref about a non existent foul. In the latest game against Brighton he was just in my opinion just soft and lazy.
Colwill was starting to get a partnership going with Fofana but I am expecting more from him than I have seen lately.

He’s awful and not the usual standard we require.

Colwill is 21, ridiculously young to be a starting CB in a team challenging for top 4. But, not only is he starting week in, week out, he's expected to play like the senior CB in the team too. Where's the senior pro, pulling him to one side, educating him, telling him to be stronger, how to be smarter? Is that Tosin in this squad, does he carry that gravitas?
Building the youngest squad in the EPL is fine, but you need an experienced core at GK, CB, CM and ST. If you want to challenge for top four, or (in our wildest dreams) the league that experience also has to be of a very high standard. Colwill is one of the best CB's in the league, in his age group, but he's on this pedestal with expectations that he's going to play like a van Dijk, when he should be playing alongside a van Dijk.
Carragher was actually correct during the Brighton game. This is Chelsea, we're not a project club, the project happened twenty years ago. We're serial winners, well we were at least, and we don't want to hear that we'll be ready to be winners in five years time.

We obviously have been serial winners and to some extent that success has made it difficult, if not impossible to except periods when winning doesn’t happen. The amount that the new owners have spent raises our expectations.
Other clubs have also spent significant amounts of money and spend years and in some cases decades without winning any major trophy or any trophy at all.
I have said that I think the club/ owners should have given themselves more time and warned against the owners making “statement” signings in the very early days of their tenure. That criticism does not mean that I believe the club needed a major club overall.
Colwill having a bad couple of games will not change my opinion about his ability but I think CH’s need a partner next to them and although I haven’t always been entirely convinced about Fofana, together they were showing signs of solid partnership. Some have pointed to Fofana being injured as the reason or starting point of our slump in form.
Every time Carragher comes on TV I can only think of him gobbing into the face of his own supporters. So I’m not a fan. That dislike of him doesn’t mean he can’t be right and I guess time will tell.
I think our current owners will buy and sell lots more players over the course of their ownership. I think that fan’s favourites will also be sold if the price is right. The trading of players is nothing new but as I mentioned on a previous post this is trading/ change on “steroids.
The SD’s come in for a huge amount of criticism and some of it may be fair criticism but I have no idea if they acting under the owners instructions. If the owners believe that the SD’s have generally carried out there inspections they will probably keep there jobs.
If I am correct and the managers performance will be judged at the end of this season and not as EM reported after 2/ 3 seasons. Again I’m only guessing but I find it hard to believe that after such a huge player investment the owners didn’t see Champions League qualification as a minimum target. Again I’m only guessing but I also believe that not being in the Champions League this season has effected the clubs decision about making a long term FOS sponsorship deal that started this season. If that makes sense.

Trouble is J, the owners have made us a laughing stock and we are a project club to them, hence the appointment of Maresca.

agree colwill is still so young an is playing in a terrible side defensively with 2 of the worst keepers in the league behind him, when fofana is fit you will see colwill settle down again
Enzo fernadez id definetly start putting feelers out for him he's dreadfull overated world cup star like james rodriquez he's been dreadfull leaves our team wide open still can't believe we left galagher go wed be such a better team with conor and caicedo cm
Lavia is a waste of space cut our loses and sell
id sell madueke when estevao comes in he's been dreadfull and his attitude is terrible,
id sell chalobah and use the money on a leader like geuhi, trevoh bar his debut has been deadfull
This summer we have estevao coming in,
Santos coming back,
Petrovic all 3 start in this current team
Sell sanchez to saudi or anyone whol take him,
Sell madueke i think there's a good market there for him
Sell chalobah definetly a market for trevoh
Sell Nkuku he's been dreadfull
use the money for centre half and striker there isn't too many keepers better than petrovic available id give him a go he had a great 2nd half to the season
Next season
my team
GK-petrovic sub jorgensen
Defence-james fofana colwill cucurella subs god knows whol be left
Midfield-santos caicedo cm player 10
estevao and jackson on the wings iv a real soft spot for jackson but he's not a striker his work rate would be a huge asset out wide
Subs, neto sancho george lavia enzo
Striker- Oshimen go get him for crying out loud we have not had a top end striker since costa 2017 its embarrassing we screwed up so much in the summer that he went to gala
subs guehi and maybe jackson in cup games
I do feel like if maresca is still in charge it will be delap not oshimen
Just a bit of fun and my own opinion throwing it out there i think lavia is a top young player and if fit he starts every other week but he's been a disaster.
16 Feb 2025 12:27:01
I think that is the problem Poch.
I think we all agree that Reece, Lavia and Fofana walk into the team but how many games will they be fit for.
It shows that we cannot carry these type of players, pipping in and out of the team when they are fit.

Periods of not winning silverware are perfectly acceptable, but periods outside of the Champions League aren't. The foundations for sustained success were there when the current owners took over. They ripped them all up and decided, via what I can only believe is their own hubris, to rebuild it all, and that rebuild has, so far, been a complete failure, both on and off the pitch.

“j” lot a lot of fans I was shocked at the early decisions and to a certain extent the pace of that initial change.
What followed was of their own making and in my opinion delayed any chance of CL qualification for a period of time. For that reason I didn’t have ambitious targets for last season and Potter, in my opinion, had zero chance given the chaos he was being asked to deal with.
However, I fully expected us to be challenging for CL football this season and the title next season. I guess what I’m saying is I will have given them more than a reasonable amount of time to prove to me they can own a club with winning trophies as its core value.
