Standard that's why ed002 used to always say forget the financials as we don't or won't understand.

As I say Blueblood, it’s all just a bit of fun. We are all just guessing, we are generally all biased and we all haven’t got a clue what’s really going on.
We all miss the Ed002 insights but Ed001 is doing a very good job of filling in some gaps and giving his unbiased opinions.

Super interesting discussion this, thanks to everyone involved for all points made and to Ed001 for insight. Somewhere Ed002 is calling us all a bunch of clueless idiots.
Tom, I just want to say I hope your health is on the up long before next season.

I wouldn’t have a clue what “onto a good thing” refers to. Maybe they consider there initial investment is worth more now than when they purchased it?
I think a lot of fans believed that we required a rebuild and that it would take time. I think the owners made mistakes and I think it was Ed002 who said we were poorly advised in there early days of ownership.
I have taken the view that we are now a trading company first and then a football team as far as the owners are concerned.
I also think it will take City and Utd several seasons to rebuild and depending on transfers we might see the scousers struggle a bit more next season. The gooners, Villa and Newcastle could be well placed for next season but I also think we will improve to be serious challengers for the title.

Anna and JBS, your an are correct Ed002 is much missed.
We are all guessing what’s going on behind the scenes I am rarely definitive when it comes to things about Chelsea and that includes apportioning blame.
It’s impossible in my opinion to make everyone happy and that was proved by the so called pre match demonstration that in my opinion lacked a singular focus and was bound to just die on vine.
I now go to games as I did pre RA not expecting us to win but hoping for a result. It’s the same if I’m watching on TV. I certainly think for a while I was feeling a sense of entitlement but thankfully that has gone.
I’m hoping for another run of trophies in my lifetime but there are no guarantees.
Bill, as for the media calling EM a “dinosaur” these is the same media that was waxing lyrical 13/ 14 games ago.

JBS, ed002 was a chelsea fan. He had a lot of criticism for things like Barkley (referring to our player as a knuckle dragger) and criticised liverpool immensely (agent fees for van Dijk and Allison) . I always get the sense that he was a bigger chelsea fan than he made off.

I think Ed002 was excellent at just putting down silly rumours full stop. Often using the single word 'twitter? '.
Yes, and he didn't like slagging off of the club if based on rumour only about its intentions -- or based on too slim evidence
But he had of course - when asked by some of us - suggested CFC should go for Slot (ie Ed002's pick of best possibly available managers out there) not Maresca as Poch successor. Indeed had even suggested Mourinho (controversially for some of us perhaps) would at least have been good at deciding which players good enough to keep and which not.
Ed002 far too intelligent not to appreciate justifiable criticism but probably not so keen on those on site who seemed never to have much good to say about the club or its players often without knowledge of why actions taken.
As for now, we can also see the club's strategy in terms of recent transfer business, and that Vision 2030 is about building exciting team based on new wage structure and talented younger players on long contracts. But question is whether they - SDs/ owners - have made the right decisions in terms of usual mix of youth and experience needed to bring success any time soon (ie before before 2030). Alsio the apparently larger proportion than usual -- there's always a proportion of this at any club - of not good transfer business taht has resulted in waste of money and not addressing obvious weaknesses in the squad.

Completely agree with you about Ed002 DubaiAnna he is enormously missed.
In terms of CL football and Maresca comments it may be that this is all about the 2030 Vision/ project. But for even that to be successful surely depends on retaining our bet players as they mature and gain experience plus attracting - or retaining from the academy - among the best of young talent available. Plus what does not being successful in this respect or having high proportion of disappointing league (and cup) results do for the morale of our young players? Leave aside the morale of fans if we count for anything in the calculations.

By chance I was looking at Jonathan David's stats randomly this afternoon without even realizing, that Lille were playing in the CL later tonight - and of course he scored.
It is very surprising to me how he has had such impressive records for so many years without being picked up by any bigger teams.
I also noticed that he's out of contract in the summer.
He may not be what people here would be most interested in, and I must admit that I have only seen him play very, very few times - but judging from his statistics I think he would be a very interesting signing.
I was wondering if you, Ed, would be willing to share any thoughts you might have on him?
On a separate note, I am happy to see these sites still thriving. I have had less and less time these past years to check the site due to work, but am happy to know that everything seems to be still going well, despite the sad passing of Ed002 last year.
I hope you are all well :)
{Ed001's Note - David scores goals but in a very specific system. He is best for a team that hits on the counter as his first touch is poor. He needs it to be played into space to run onto and hit, similar to Lukaku, which is not suited to most of the bigger teams.
Thank you very much Emil, I did wonder myself what would but so far things are good.
all good here mate, how are things with you and your family?}

Thank you for the description - doesn't sound like the right fit for us then :)
Things are quite fine with me, I am going to see my girlfriend next week (we are in a long distance relationship; she lives in NYC and I in Denmark) .
Hopefully she will be able to move to Denmark in the summer :)
{Ed001's Note - that is what you call a distance! Fingers crossed for you both mate.}

In spirit of the good Ed002, what is everyone's favourite tidbit of information they've received from him over the years?
Mine would have to be, I think it was under mourinho in 2014-2016 when we had all our strikers unfit (Ba, Remy Drogba? ), Ed002 told us Branislav Ivanovic was in serious contention to start up front for a few games.
I believe it was this season when ivanovic was Marauding forward from rightback and finding himself in fantastic offensive positions.
What are everyone else's favourite memories/ info ed gave us.
23 Feb 2025 21:26:35
Mine would be how often he told us all we were posting uninformed rubbish. Maybe not so politely.

Just learnt of the great ed002's passing. RIP and hope everyone involved with him is okay. Good opportunity to appreciate the editors now for all they do on here (thanklessly) .
I'll raise my (hot chocolate) to him.
{Ed001's Note - thank you mate.}

What is tiresome is when someone doesn’t believe the mighty Ed002 when he said Gallagher was offered a contract. CG was perfectly entitled not to sign that contract and he would have been well aware by not signing it the club would look to sell him.
{Ed001's Note - it was also less than half what the likes of Enzo were on, the club knew he wasn't going to sign it. They were always intending to sell him.}

Subject to health considerations and if I really want to come out of retirement, I may well be working in the UAE on a project for a few months. I will buy you a coffee if I get to Dubai and maybe we can raise a glass of some sort for Ed002.
{Ed001's Note - that would be great Tom. It is a great place to visit mate. I don't drink alcohol, so it would be a coffee, or better still, if you are coming to Dubai, we will have to have a chai. If health is a problem, sun and sea air is one of the best things you can have - that was why I moved here initially.}

So, we could only sign Neto if we signed Felix?
Truly remarkable knowledge! Again, I have read zero that supports that view. It’s a massive pity that Ed002 isn’t around to add some colour/ clarity.

I don’t recall any rumour that we “tapped up” Olise. I seem to remember Ed002 saying he was in a list of targets. I also find it hard to believe that as our owners self reported an issue that they would sanction a breach of protocol. Leave that approach to Klopp. haha.
I assume reading between the lines is just another term for guessing and we all do that. I’m afraid I don’t have a very suspicious mind.

27 Jan 2025 20:02:38
RBD, what does “designed” it for that matter “slam dunk” mean in the context of Olise? As far as I know we didn’t make a bid for the player.
There is nothing clear about making some sort of deal with a “devil” agent as you suggest. This just all made up stuff but then we all just fans just guessing.
I would have liked CG to stay. He was offered a contract (according to Ed002) and turned it down. He was obviously entitled to turn it down. From what I can remember, I think from Ed001, the manager didn’t want Felix (neither did I) but the SD’s did.
If they don’t sell a player then “breaking even, ” making a loss or making a profit isn’t an issue. The loan deal for Veiga looks like a no brainer and I haven’t got a clue is Disasi will be a loan or a sale but there are apparently several clubs interested. I personally hope he is sold.
Sterling, was a strange episode but I think the club just ran out of road having decided very late in the last window he wasn’t part of there plans. I was hoping he might do reasonably well for the gooners so as to create some interest but as yet that hasn’t happened.
Your comment about Palmer, Santos, Colwill, Jackson being sold at some stage is in my opinion reasonable. In fact there was a rumour of an offer of £160m for Palmer and I asked the question from fellow posters, would they take that offer. If I remember correctly only one person said No but then only person said Yes and that was me. I gave up feeling precious about any player a long time ago.

Bill, there seems to be a strange complex about a supposed negative post or posters. I see positive posters getting plenty of pelters for having blue tinted glasses. I keep saying that all opinions/ views should be respected but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be questioned.
My positives are a follow on from when we had a brilliant fans owner in RA and takes into account the early mistakes. I’m also happy for people to disagree with my assessment.
The new took over and decided that the playing squad need a substantial overhaul. I would suggest they tried to do to much to quickly and that was part of the reason they made some significant transfer mistakes. I think Ed002 said they were poorly advised.
Since those early mistakes I am “generally” happy with the squad we now have. While putting together that squad in my opinion they have made some further mistakes. I wouldn’t have signed Felix or KDH and I wouldn’t have preferred Disasi over Chalaboa. I would also never given Poch the managers job.
The way I like to look at our club is do the positives outweigh the negatives. I think the answer to question is an unequivocal YES.
On a personal level the club has kept its ticketing prices at a reasonable level since the takeover including concessions.
Last season I thought we would finish between 6th-8th and we finished 6th. This season I think we will finish between 3rd-5th, I still think that may well happen. Next season I will be expecting us to challenging for the title, still with the youngest squad in the premiership.
This will sound strange but I think that it could be financially better for the club not to have a FOS sponsor for this season unless it was for just one season and didn’t include the WCC. The SB development was always going to be difficult given the club’s location and historic foot print. I’m happy for the club to study the three options but I can’t see anything happening in my lifetime.
The SD’s will NEVER make everyone happy and of course with the benefit of hindsight us fans will always find reasons to complain. Another example of how impossible there job is to make fans happy is the ongoing transfer rumour that we are “considering” signing Garnacho, just the “rumour” of considering it means the SD’s are incompetent.
Some seasons ago and while Roman was our owner I gave up on feeling precious about our home grown players that feeling hasn’t changed under our new ownership.
Just one last thing i am a critical poster when I think it’s justified but I will try not to be critical if I’m guessing, don’t know the reasons why a decision has been made, or the final outcome of those decisions.

Hello all, I have returned from the land of forgetfulness, as I finally remembered my password. Hope all are well.
Ed001 - stunned to read about the passing of Ed002, my deepest sympathies to you, all the other Eds and of course all his close friends and family. May you all find comfort as soon as possible.
{Ed001's Note - thank you RBD, I really appreciate that mate and it is good to see you back.}

Bloody hell, just seen about Ed002. I'm a bit off the pace here. Condolences to his family – and to you Ed001.
JBS, I generally find your posts well reasoned and thoughtful, and this is no exception. Surely – surely – these Garnacho rumours are just agent faff? Another inconsistent, arrogant young winger with a sulky attitude who doesn't get his head up – would at least provide balance with Noni on the other side I guess. I'd be hugely disappointed in this transfer, especially at the prices quoted – although his output would probably be higher than Mudryk at least, saying that isn't saying much.
I wish Maresca wasn't treating Chucky like this. I get that he's coming back from a severe injury, so a loan might make sense, but every time he plays he's looked more dynamic than, say, Enzo, to me (although in recent European sub appearances, understandably a bit nervous. Wish he'd scored one of the chances he had in the last game he played) . I really rate him, and we're killing his career at the moment. Casadei also always looked good to me when he's been given minutes by the club – though clearly asked to do a much more conservative safety-first Lavia-style job by Maresca this season, he wins headers in the midfield and can bomb forward. Maybe not the profile of midfielder we want in this setup, but another talented player on the pyre of the SDs' confusion.
Nkunku looks a cert to be sold. He's looked disinterested last five games or so – guess he's known the writing's on the wall for a while. Not a great reflection on him, that – I'm not a fan of players sulking and feel you should give your all if you play, regardless – but he looked so dynamic in his first games back from the injury and it seems a strange one to be letting our club's top scorer go when we have an issue with scoring goals.
{Ed001's Note - thank you EdW. He is very missed.}
