Hi Chelsea fans,

I am a Liverpool supporter but I come in peace (trust me). I was just wondering what do you guys think about Gerrard not joining Chelsea during the summer of 2005? Do you guys think it was the right decision for him to not go to Chelsea? Would he have helped Chelsea go to the next level and win the CL (back then under Mou)? Do you think Mou would have managed to get Gerrard and Lampard to work in the same team?

I am of the opinion that it was the right decision if he wanted to keep his legacy at Liverpool, but if he wanted to win more trophies and the title, he probably should have joined Chelsea. I also think that with Mou's tactical nous, Gerrard and Lampard would have been part of quite an impressive midfield trio.

So what do you guys think?

P.S. I can't reply to anything because of some technical error so please don't think I'm avoiding discussion if you guys direct anything at me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't really supporting any team back then so I never really put much thought into Gerrard not coming. Like you, I do think Mourinho would've made it work. He's such a great manager and he would've fit them both in the team.
That being said, the midfield was very strong back then and then Ballack arrived later as well so I don't think anyone would complain about our midfield options back then :-)

I think if we got Gerard we would have been dominant in England a lot more than we were and also I think we would have won the champions league under Jose aswell. now I ain't saying he made the right or wrong decision to stay or go only he truly knows that but what I do feel is he made up his mind to go and when the Liverpool fans burnt his jerseys outside anfield he shit himself lol plain and simple apparently he was dead set to go and had a change of heart the only change of heart he has was he didn't have the cohones to leave he would certainly have a far greater trophy cabinet had he done so but hey who nos one thing is for sure Gerard is a legend one of my all time favourites that's even as a Chelsea fan

I think it could have worked out well at Chelsea for Gerrard. Him and Lampard in front of Makelele/Essien would have made a powerful midfield in a 4-3-3 or Gerrard sitting in at CM with Lampard at the top of a diamond could have worked.
Whether it was the right or wrong decision depends really on what Gerrard wants/wanted from his career. If he wanted trophies then it was the wrong decision. If he wanted legend status at Pool, then it was the right decision.

Yes I think mou would have got the best out of him, and from a career point of view he would have won more trophies. But I have nothing but respect for the guy, he stayed true to his love for Liverpool, and has become a legend. Makes a change for a player to put a love and loyalty for a club, in front of his own potential personal gains.

Steve G would take Chelsea on higher level even in 2011 not to mention what he would mean to Chelsea in 2005
