I don't want to be too negative but if the reports of Batshuayi are true and he is signing for the package that has been reported, the club will have over payed.
I understand that this is the way the market is now, with everyone having money within the premier league, unfortunately. What I don't understand is that the club will not pay over the odds for a centre half which is arguably needed more, considering the importance of finding an heir to JT.
Christensen is at least one more year off if he comes back, Zouma needs a partner and Clarke Salter, Miazga and Tomori are not the level needed yet due to their inexperience.
I just find it to be bewildering that the club will over pay for Batshuayi, if true, and will not countence over paying to land a player capable of filling the hole which Terry will leave, at least on the pitch. It would seem more logical to use a large chunk of finance to attempt to sign a player such as Bonucci for experience and leadership or Stones for the longetivity and potential he would provide. JT won't go on forever and we have to be ready for the year where he does not sign a one year extension, maybe next year.

. and how do you know that the club is not working on a deal or deals for one or more CB's?! Seems a bit of a rant to go on off the back of a theoretical first signing.

Can only judge if over paid after next season. I personally don't follow a lot of French football but he can't be half as bad as remy and Falcao.

So you're not willing to over pay on Batshuayi but you are willing to over pay to a greater extent for John Stones? After the season he's had Stones can't be worth more than £20m, it's only his age and nationality that's causing the high price! I don't think Batshuayi is a risk personally, great athlete, good with both feet, knows where the net is. Overpaying would be someone like Morata, who's going for €50-60m. He can't get a game at Juve, hasn't looked very good for Spain, despite scoring 3 goals - I'd take Batshuayi over him all day long!
One thing o have realised watching the Euros is just how lucky we are to have Deigo Costa! Better than anything I've seen at the Euros! We better not sell him. Pretty sure Batshuayi is being signed to play with him though as Costa is the sort of player Conte likes.
