The official Chelsea website published what was quite an odd article about Lampard's views on Hudson-Odoi - how he can be a central player in his plans, a big player for the club etc. It was frankly (no pun) a bit odd, and very unlike the club to put out that kind of content.

Now comes the question: do clubs use channels like the media to influence players when negotiation new contracts, or potentially players they're interested in? Maybe even to send a message to clubs they know are giving unwelcome attention to one of their players?

Just struck me as Frank and the team are currently in Ireland and Callum (amongst others) back in the UK continuing rehab, it might have been quite a deliberate bit of PR.

It was an unusual post I agree, but to me it smacks of the club knowing what buttons to press and righting some of the PR wrongs from last season (with players and fans) . Social media is important. It can only be a good for CHO to see posts like that, especially after the lack of enthusiasm Sarri showed towards him at times last season. He's gone from a manager that didn't even speak to him after his international debut to this. It can only be a good thing.

The clubs marketing has changed somewhat over the past year, they now openly publish transfer rumours and the red top press stories about the club; even then the stories aren't positive.

In many ways this is one market that English clubs don’t really engage in that most other foreign countries do. For at least 10 years you’ll hear Barca, Madrid, and Bayern players openly court potential targets during the season and utilize news companies such as Marca and Bild as unofficial mouthpieces of the club. As others have stated Sarri did many things well but one area he struggled with was public relations. His outward indifference to CHO’s international success and challenging supporters over their support of youngsters were two instances that just seemed needless and ignorant.
