I said it for the majority of last season, a midfield of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic doesn't work. None are good enough in the attacking areas to be consistently effective there, plus Jorginho and Kovacic allow players to run off them too easily leaving Kante with too much for even him to clean up.
Christensen's concentration levels will always be a problem. He had no choice but to bring Mane down, it was a red card that he took for the team. But, how were we undone by that ball and run so easily? Where was his positioning and awareness at the time of the pass? I'm not a fan of his, and don't see any progression in his game.
Those (and Kepa) were problems last season. We have important new players coming in who will make a difference. But, they're coming in without a full pre-season and they're finding their feet in the Premier League - it's going to take time. We have a decent couple of fixtures coming up now with Ziyech, Pulisic, Chilwell and Silva all hopefully worked into the team.
Our match next year away at Anfield will be a great way to measure how Lampard's done with this squad - now's not the time to be overly judgemental on that.

J, I totally agree about measuring any improvement we make at the end of the season and the game against the red Scousers will be interesting.

Lampard is my favourite ever Chelsea player and I was happy but sceltical when he was appointed manager of our club. However even though patience is required, certain things don't look encouraging. Tactically he is naive and still don't know the strength of his players and continue to choose the wrong line up. Playing them out position and don't seem to know/ use a settled line up. He also show loyalty to players who are not performing. Well he has to understand we're Chelsea and we don't play sentiments card when it comes to performance and results.
I will wait for the new signings to join the team and settle in before I conclude but lampard need to up his game because we are not only trying groom the young squad but also our YOUNG/ rookie manager which will be more complicated.
