I agree Matt.
They have to try and be interesting and they desperately try to be controversial. The reality is they just make themselves look and sound like fools.
I’ve always wondered why an ex-footballers opinion is seen in some way to be MORE valid than any ordinary football fan who watches every game his/ her team plays.

Saying that will get more people to call in than saying the opposite. Those calls help pay these guys to talk about football.

Everyone rates Kante and it's clear that he's a 'tier 1' midfielder, but it’s clear too that Chelsea needs stability in the defensive midfield department, so rather than say, 'Declan Rice is an upgrade on Kante', I think they should have said that Declan Rice can offer (to Chelsea) what Kante cannot offer (which is more stability in the defensive midfield area; so,
* does that make Declan Rice an upgrade on Kante in the ‘defensive midfield position’? The answer is YES.
* does that make Declan Rice an upgrade on Kante as a midfield player? The answer is NO.
Kante is clearly a better and more versatile midfield player than Declan Rice, but Declan Rice is a better defensive midfielder than Kante.

Adrian Durham has made a good living by throwing out controversial statements to get phone-ins - it's obvious that he doesn't even agree with himself!
