So rather than spending x amount on a new left back. Can we sell cucurella and just take the loss, and keep maatsen? Give maatsen a fair run in the first team first.

If that’s what the club and manager want I do then I guess they can.
Having had a very poor first season I think when fit Cucarella is showing himself to be a useful asset to the squad. He even did well when asked to play RB.

I feel like letting Maatsen go will be one of those that come back to haunt us. Really surprised he wasn't getting into the team more consistently earlier in the season – very classy player – he is admittedly quite short and Poch wanted the height of Colwill there.

Every side needs balance, that includes height in the side. Edw, you are 100% correct.

In retrospect playing Colwill there didn't help us at all – didn't make any difference in terms of attacking set pieces, and in terms of defending set pieces we still gave up a fair few goals. Also Colwill's lack of understanding of the position (failing to close down attacking players coming in from the right, backing off more like a CB) directly led to at least two silly goals we conceded that I can think of off the top of my head. It's impossible to know what effect playing Maatsen there would have had on results. Most likely none, in all honesty. But I'd have liked to have seen him given a fair chance in his natural position, despite his height, given his very obvious quality.
